All Creatures Great And Small filled viewers with festive cheer as James Harriott made it home to his wife Helen in time for Christmas.
James (Nicholas Ralph) had been away at a RAF base while serving in World War II but an emotional phone call with Helen (Rachel Shenton) persuaded him to come home.
Events on the base threatened to keep the couple apart however and he eventually abandoned his work responsibilites in favour of being with his wife.
Sadly he ended up missing the birth of their baby but Helen was overjoyed to see him return.
