Heartbreaking truth behind Demi Moore’s SAG Award win for best actress

Demi Moore’s recent award ceremony wins are proving bittersweet for the star due to the fact the one person who encouraged her the most throughout her career – ex-husband Bruce Willis – isn’t able to fully celebrate with her, an insider revealed.

Sunday night saw the Hollywood icon, 62, walk away with her first-ever Screen Actors Guild award win, following on from her first Golden Globe and Critics Choice Award victories for her role in body-horror film, The Substance.

Each victorious moment has seen the star overcome with emotion as she recalled being labeled a ‘popcorn actress’ and being told that such critical praise could never come her way.

Now, insiders have revealed that the star has been so moved by her growing collection of accolades because her ex-husband Bruce Willis, 69, had been a key reason why she was inspired to keep pushing herself beyond what she had expected for herself at this point in her 45-year career.

‘Bruce being in such a fragile state showed Demi how very short and precious life is,’ a source exclusively revealed to DailyMail.com. 

‘This really gave her the drive and desire to keep going and push herself beyond what she ever thought was possible, and it paid off.’

The Die Hard actor retired from acting back in 2022 due to aphasia – a brain disorder that affects speech and language comprehension. He was later diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia back in 2023.

Demi – who shares daughters Rumer, 36, Scout, 33, and Tallulah, 31, with Bruce – has been on hand to offer support to her former partner, their children and his wife Emma Heming Willis.

The source continued: ‘Bruce is aware of Demi sweeping up these awards and he is so proud of her. 

‘She shares this with Bruce and her whole family, who has been massively supportive of her and shown her so much love.’

The insider noted that the success of her role in The Substance has revitalized the star’s passion for the craft, as they added: ‘She is such a talented actress and now the world finally gets to see what she is capable of. 

‘This is just the beginning and she is getting more scripts than ever before.’

Demi knows a thing or two about making an epic comeback during her career.

The Ghost actress was famously one of the go-to film stars in the 1990s before the relative flops of films such as Striptease in 1996 and G.I. Jane in 1997 meant her blockbuster roles soon grew fewer and further between at the turn of the century.

The star made a dazzling return to the big screen in 2003’s Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle, however by that point she was far more known for her tumultuous love life than her work.

During her career, she formed two Hollywood power couples, first in the 1980s with Bruce Willis, and then with Ashton Kutcher, the latter union ending acrimoniously in 2013.  

After several years of starring in projects that failed to make a splash, Demi made her unexpected return to the film scene last year with her role as fitness instructor Elisabeth Sparkle in her celebrated 2024 flick.

Though Bruce has not shared public comment regarding his ex-wife’s inspirational triumph in an industry that is famously less kind to older women, his wife Emma, 46, has been full of praise for the actress. 

Following Demi’s Golden Globe award win for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, Emma shared a snap of Demi on Instagram

‘We’re screaming over here!!! Congratulations @demimoore!!!!!’ she wrote in the caption. 

Bruce, Demi and Emma have remained close for the sake of their children, with the Unbreakable star previously saying ‘We’ve become like a tribe,’ after Demi and her ex Ashton attended his Turks and Caicos wedding to Emma.

Bruce has also noted that people are often baff
led by his friendship with Demi, as the Sin City actor previously explained: ‘It’s generated a lot of interest because everyone can understand resentment and envy in the breakup of a marriage, but they don’t understand how I can get along with my ex like that.

‘Demi and I made a choice to put the kids first, and we’re really lucky that it turns out we all have fun together.’

As the actress enjoys her resurgence in the film scene, insiders have revealed one thing that fans will not see again in the future.

Despite wide praise for having the confidence to strip off on screen in her 60s, the A Few Good Men star has no plans to bare her body in front of the cameras again. 

Though the actress has been ‘flooded with scripts’, those requiring nudity may not get a look in, as insiders close to Moore are ‘doubtful’ that she will bare all again.

‘Many of the scripts coming in require her to bare her body again,’ a source told DailyMail.com. ‘But she’s not so sure if she wants to do it again.

‘Demi believes there comes a time when you need to just say no.

‘If the most amazing script comes her way and there’s a nude scene, she’ll negotiate just how much she is willing to reveal.’
