Derek Hough’s wife Hayley Erbert teared up as she received a standing ovation following her first public performance since undergoing cranioplasty surgery to ‘replace a large portion of her skull’ on December 21.
TikTok user @jess_on_mainstreet uploaded several clips of the 29-year-old dancer showcasing her miraculous recovery during opening night of the 38-year-old DWTS judge’s Symphony of Dance Tour in Melbourne, FL on Sunday.
While gracing the Maxwell C. King Center for the Performing Arts, Hayley performed at least nine elaborate numbers with different costumes including the newlyweds’ first ethereal romantic dance to Forest Blakk’s 2022 song Fall Into Me (Acoustic).
‘Went in a Derek Hough fan and came out a bigger fan of Hayley,’ @jess_on_mainstreet wrote of Erbert.
‘She is such an inspirational woman…I cried like a baby…[It was] the most incredible show I’ve ever seen.’

Erbert had been medically cleared to perform in the strenuous 27-date tour on April 5, which she called a ‘blessing and surprise’ after ‘such a crazy past four months.’
‘My healing journey has been nothing short of extraordinary and being able to dance again is igniting my soul in all the ways; speeding up my recovery even more,’ the Kansas-born hoofer wrote on Instagram at the time.
‘I am so appreciative of the doctors who have supported me in my decision to dance again and my team of specialists that have been assembled to assure that my health and safety is priority. I cannot wait for you all to see this show! It was so meaningful when we opened last year and now, after everything that has happened, it is truly even more special.’
Derek has supportively stuck by Hayley’s side beginning when she was first rushed to the hospital on December 6 for an emergency craniectomy due to a cranial hematoma from a burst blood vessel following a tour stop in Washington, DC.
‘We’ve had extensive conversations and tests and results from different doctors,’ Hough told People on April 5.
‘Every kind of doctor that you can think about from our original surgeon who did the surgeries to new people in our lives and they are very supportive.’
The four-time Emmy-winning choreographer continued: ‘She’s all clear and we’re all just amazed by her and can’t wait to go out there and put on a great show and an emotional show.’
‘Dance has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember,’ Erbert added.
