February will mark a full year since Hairy Biker Dave Myers lost his battle with cancer, but best friend and long-time colleague Si King is still expecting him to walk through the door. 

Myers, whose TV cooking shows and travelogues with King made him a household name, passed away on February 28 aged 66, two-years after confirming his cancer diagnosis. 

And his surviving co-star, 58, whose friendship with Myers dates back to 1992, admits he often fools himself into believing he is still alive. 

Appearing on Wednesday’s instalment of This Morning, he said: ‘The grieving process started quite a long time ago for me when Dave was diagnosed – it was a big diagnosis – and it kind of started then really because it was all about the fight and that’s what we concentrated on. 

‘Grief is a very individual journey because it’s about an emotional adjustment of loss and the things that are no longer tangible, and that’s the bit that’s odd to get your head around.

King spoke about the prolonged grieving process he experienced following his friend’s cancer diagnosis on Wednesday’s instalment of This Morning 

‘The amount of times I’ve thought, “I’ve not heard from that toerag for ages…” and then I go “Oh man…” so it’s raw for anybody that loses somebody, but there are two things that are certain in life – you begin it, and you end it. 

‘The bit in the middle is about what you do with it. Dave loved his life, he lived it to the full and he was joyous to be around.’ 

During a separate appearance on The One Show, the TV presenter explained how the spirit of their friendship will live on as he learns to cope with his loss.

The pair had begun work on their latest book, The Hairy Bikers: Our Family Favourites, before his death, with Si completing it in his honour.

Dave passed away aged 66 in February, with this co-star by his side following a lengthy battle with an unspecified cancer.

Speaking on the programme he said: ‘It’s the book that Dave and I started before he passed.

‘I really wanted to finish it in his honour. It’s all those recipes that have stuck with us throughout the years.

‘Just because Dave’s passed it doesn’t stop you being a friend. The spirit of our relationship will always be there.

‘It’s been a big loss, I’m coping okay, thank you. It’s a big adjustment. I know Dave would have wanted me to keep pushing on.’

King and Myers worked very closely together for two decades, creating a number of much-loved cooking TV shows as well as books and live appearances.

He added: ‘I want to look after the legacy we built because I think it deserves the respect Dave and myself put into it.

‘There will be some pastures new that will come my way I’m sure.’
