Hailey Bieber Struggled with Self-Hatred and Therapy After Pregnancy Weight Gain

Hailey Bieber dealt with ‘self hatred’ after giving birth to her and Justin Bieber’s son as she struggled to lose the pregnancy weight.

In the new Vogue issue, the Rhode founder, 28 — who Justin said would ‘never’ cover the magazine — confessed to privately battling postpartum body dysmorphia.

She said that it was hard for her to accept that her body ‘is not the same body that it was before’ as she now has wider hips and larger breasts.

Eventually, Hailey became less fixated on ‘bouncing back’ and, instead, focused on giving herself — and her body — ‘grace.’

‘Every day I have to talk to myself, like, Hailey, you had a baby. You grew a human. You birthed a human. It’s okay. Give yourself grace. Give yourself time,’ she said.

Hailey told Vogue that she got a ‘new therapist’ and took holistic measures, like supplements and prenatal vitamins, to ‘prevent’ postpartum depression.

However, she still faced ‘hard’ times as a new mom coming to terms with her postpartum figure and fluctuating hormones — leading to ‘high highs and low lows.’

It took longer than Hailey expected to lose the last 15 pounds she gained while pregnant with baby Jack Blues, who was born in August 2024.

She started feeling unrecognizable to herself after years of having a ‘good relationship’ with her body.

At her lowest point, Hailey said she would seek out ‘cruel’ comments about her post-baby body online to validate her own negative self-talk.

This vicious cycle led to her feeling feeling depressed and angry at herself.

‘When people talk about ‘bouncing back’— back where, because my hips are wider, my boobs are actually bigger than they were before. They did not go back. And great, I’ll take it, but it’s not the same body that it was before,’ Hailey explained to Vogue.

‘You’re not the same person that you were before. You change head to toe.’

Hailey continued: ‘I think there was a minute where I kept really hyper- fixating on getting back to what I was. And then I had to go through that acceptance of, I’m not going back.

‘So it’s really about how do I want to move forward? Who do I want to be?’

Hailey did eventually lose the remaining 15 pounds after working on her diet and exercise with a ‘team of experts on “the building blocks.”‘

These ‘building blocks’ included working on her pelvic floor as well as spinal and core realignment, Vogue revealed.

Now, Hailey said that she is more confident than ever and that motherhood has provided her with a newfound strength.

‘I like who I am so much more than I ever have. There’s an ease that comes with [motherhood], a confidence,’ she told the outlet.

‘You really start to give less of a f*** about so many things. You’re just like, I don’t have the time, actually. I don’t have the energy.’

She added that her son, who will turn one in August, is her ‘priority’ and the ‘most important thing to me.’

For her Vogue cover story, Hailey also shared her traumatic birth experience for the first time — admitting that she thought she might ‘die.’

The model, 28, welcomed her only child with Justin in August 2024, but experienced some ‘scary’ complications during the birth.

Despite prepping for nine months in which she exercised, worked on her pelvic floor and felt ‘physically stronger’ than ever before, Hailey found herself going through a very tough labour, with the stunner admitting in a candid new interview that giving birth was ‘the hardest thing I’ve ever done’.

Hailey told Vogue: ‘That s**t was so crazy. That was not fun. They broke my water. I went into labor and I labored for a few hours. No epidural, nothing.’

Hailey began leaking amniotic fluid at 39 weeks and had to be induced, with the star given medication to bring on contractions while a special balloon was placed inside her uterus to help dilate her.

However, while she eventually welcomed her boy after 18 hours, her troubles continued as she then experienced a postpartum hemorrhage, with Hailey sadly admitting that the thought had crossed her mind that she wouldn’t survive the ordeal.

On the fact that death could be a result of this complication if not treated quickly, which she told was ‘a little bit scary’, Hailey shared: ‘I trust my doctor with my life. And so I had peace that I knew she would never let anything happen to me. But I was bleeding really badly, and people die, and the thought crosses your mind.’

Meanwhile, during the candid interview, Hailey told of her ‘difficulty’ at coping with the ‘new version of herself’, while facing rumors surrounding her marriage to singer Justin.

Fans have expressed concern for the couple due to their stony-faced public appearances, and Hailey’s famous friends have allegedly urged her to leave the singer due to his ‘unacceptable’ behavior.

Addressing the difficulty, she shared: ‘Being postpartum is the most sensitive time I’ve ever gone through in my life, and learning a new version of myself is very difficult… And to be doing that all the while going on the internet every day and people being like, “They’re getting divorced” and “They’re this” and “They’re not happy”: It is such a mindf**k. I cannot even begin to explain it. It’s a crazy life to live.’

Hailey’s words comes after she didn’t look at all pleased by her husband Justin’s outburst when they cheered on his Toronto Maple Leafs as they battled the Florida Panthers in Game 7 of the NHL Eastern Conference Semifinals.

Her husband Justin, whom fans noted looked particularly gaunt on social media, gushed about his love for the Maple Leafs on social media, but his team ended up losing the game on Sunday night in a disappointing 6–1 result.

The agitated singer could be seen banging on the tempered glass separating his and Hailey’s front-row seats from the ice as he appeared to try to get the attention of the Maple Leafs and their coaching staff.

Hailey looked particularly upset by the shocking outburst from her vantage point next to the 31-year-old pop superstar.

She gazed forward awkwardly, rather than looking over at her overheated husband, though she raised a hand in midair as if to try to comfort or shush Justin.

The mortifying display was glimpsed by others in their vicinity, including spectators sitting next to them and members of the team and staff, who gazed back at Justin from the other side of the protective barrier.

In another photo, Justin tensely leaned forward with his sunglasses covering his eyes while Hailey displayed a stone-faced expression.

Despite the couple’s awkward interactions at the hockey game, they managed to put on sweet displays at other times.

In photos posted to the National Hockey League’s Instagram account, Justin — who was reportedly ‘on the verge of financial collapse’ before selling his song catalogue in recent years — could be seen sitting in the front row at Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena as he wrapped an arm around Hailey while showing off an extreme smile.

‘@haileybieber & @justinbieber are in the house tonight cheering on the @mapleleafs! #StanleyCup #Game7,’ read the NHL’s Instagram caption.

Justin was unmissable in a bright jacket with vertical stripes of velvet coral and ribbed orange fabric.

He paired the zip-up item with a furry beige hat featuring a quilted pattern, and he covered his eyes with a shiny pair of slim black sunglasses.

The Sorry singer appeared to be particularly gaunt and showed the heavy lines of his face as he bared his teeth in a smile for the camera.

Justin’s wife Hailey sat just behind the tempered glass protecting fans from flying pucks (and hockey players), and Justin appeared to be gesturing down at the players on the bench just in front of them.

His wife also supported the Maple Leafs by cutting a striking figure in an oversize blue, black and white Maple Leafs jacket.

She appeared to wear a black low-cut tank top that highlighted her cleavage under her jacket, and she paired it with black pants

Hailey could be see facing forward awkwardly as Justin began banging on the glass at one point to get the team’s attention.
