Five years after her last big screen role in Marvel’s 2019 superhero adventure Avengers: Endgame, Gwyneth Paltrow is returning to acting.
The 51-year-old actress and Goop entrepreneur has signed on for an unspecified role in A24’s Marty Supreme alongside Timothee Chalamet, via Deadline.
While previous reports about the project claimed it was loosely based on the life of pro table tennis player Marty Reisman, sources now claim it’s a ‘fictionalized original’ film and not a straight-up biopic about Reisman’s life.
No details about who Paltrow – who recently joined a new Vogue documentary – will be playing in the film, with plot details being kept under wraps at the moment.
It’s also unclear when production will begin, or when A24 is eyeing to release the project at this time.

Reisman was one of the most accomplished American table tennis players of all time, winning over 22 major table tennis titles between 1967 and 2002.
He and his doubles partner – Douglas Cartland – even performed a table tennis comedy routine to open up the Harlem Globetrotters show for many years.
His autobiography – The Money Player, The Confessions of America’s Greatest Table Tennis Player and Hustler – was published in 1974.
Reisman passed away in 2012 at 82 years of age, with Susan Sarandon calling him a ‘dear friend’ and a ‘major force in ping pong.’
Still, since this project is not a full-fledged biopic, it remains to be seen how much of his real life will be culled from for this film.
Josh Safdie will make his first solo film since 2008’s with Marty Supreme, working from a script he co-wrote with Ronald Bronstein.
Safdie co-wrote and co-directed films Heaven Knows What, Good Time and Uncut Gems with his brother Benny Safdie.
Josh also directed Adam Sandler’s new Netflix comedy special Adam Sandler: Love You, which debuted on Tuesday.
