Gwen Stefani has some explaining to do.
Upon the announcement that her old band No Doubt is reuniting to play the annual Coachella Valley Music And Arts Festival in April, comes word that the band’s front woman had to rehash her past and explain that she once was in a band with three men to her youngest son, Apollo, nine.
You have to consider that there’s a lot of young fans out there that only know her as a coach on NBC’s hit singing competition series The Voice and for her work as a solo musical artist.
‘I had to literally lay in bed with Apollo and he’s like, “But mom, what is Coachella? Everyone’s saying it. What is this? It sounds like it’s a big deal.” So we had to watch the Don’t Speak video, and he’s like, “But wait, which one was your boyfriend?” It was so weird and so funny. I literally had to tell him each band member,’ Stefani explained.
‘That’s how much time’s gone by because he’s going to be 10! It’s just another miracle and a blessing. And it was surreal for me. I feel like we’re in the future and lightning just struck and [No Doubt] is like, “Here we are!”‘

The Coachella reunion will mark the first time No Doubt has played together since 2015, which was dubbed a reunion at that time.
Along with Stefani on vocals, No Doubt also includes guitarist Tom Dumont, bassist Tony Kanal, and drummer Adrian Young; all of which have been the nucleus of the group since the late 1980s.
They first broke out with their self-titled debut studio record (1992) and then the follow-up The Beacon Street Collection (1995), which sold over 100,000 copies, three times as many as their first one.
The success of their sophomore effort helped secure that there would be a third album with Interscope Records, which ended up being a wise decision, considering it marked their breakout moment as artists and rock stars.
On the heels of seven singles like Just A Girl and Don’t Speak, Tragic Kingdom (1995) went on to be certified diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in the U.S. and Canada, platinum in the UK, and triple platinum in Australia.
Ultimately hitting number one on the Billboard 200 chart, Tragic Kingdom has now sold more than 16 million copies worldwide.
After dropping two more albums, Return To Saturn (2000) and Rock Steady (2001), another massive success, due in part to hits like Hey Baby, Hella Good and Underneath It All, they went into a hiatus that would open up the doors for a Stefani solo record.
Love. Angel. Music. Baby (2004) would help establish Stefani as a solo female musical artist to be reckoned with, and lead to three more releases, the last of which was a holiday-themed Christmas record You Make It Feel Like Christmas (2017).
‘I had to literally lay in bed with Apollo and he’s like, “But mom, what is Coachella? Everyone’s saying it. What is this? No Doubt scored two huge hits with their breakthrough studio album Tragic Kingdom (1995), which sold more than 16 million copes, and Rock Steady (2001)
In a reference to the near decade that has gone by since No Doubt’s last show, Stefani added, ‘That’s how much time’s gone by because he’s going to be 10! It’s just another miracle and a blessing. And it was surreal for me. I feel like we’re in the future and lightning just struck and [No Doubt] is like, “Here we are!”‘; mom and son are seen with stepdad Blake Shelton
The Coachella Valley Music And Arts Festival announced No Doubt will be performing on April 12-14 and 19-21, but gave no specific day for their first show in nine years
The Orange County, California native became a big star following the success of Tragic Kingdom in 1995 and 96; the frontwoman is seen in August 1996
Some of her solo hit songs include the likes of Hollaback Girl, Cool, Rich Girl, The Sweet Escape, Wind It Up and 4 In The Morning, among others.
Those are the songs that many of her more younger fans like her son Apollo would know, along with her stint on The Voice that began in 2014.
After the success of her second solo album The Sweet Escape (2006), it would be another six years until No Doubt got back together and release their last album as a band, Push And Shove (2012).
The band went on to play periodic shows through the next few years until 2015.
But now, with nearly a decade having past since working a stage together, Gwen Stefani says she’s ‘completely overwhelmed’ by the warm reception the band has gotten since the reunion went public.
‘It just happened so fast, and that’s my favorite kind of thing to happen. We haven’t really figured out the next steps of how we’re going to do this, but we’re just all so excited,’ Stefani, 54, shared. ‘And I think really just watching the internet blow up [with] how excited that the fans are? It’s inspiring us.’

That inspiring response over the reunion announcement already has the Orange County, California native in ready to rock mode.
‘I definitely have that little thing in your stomach where you’re like, “Oh my gosh! What?”‘ she said in a reference to the butterflies. ‘It’s going to be amazing.’
The beloved band will play together for the first time in nearly a decade when they hit the Coachella music festival stage, beginning on April 12.
