Guy Sebastian surprised his fans this week by revealing that he is launching a movie career.
The singer, 42, posted to Instagram on Friday to announce that he has joined the cast of Bollywood movie Hindi Vindi, in his first ever acting role.
And the film’s writer and executive producer Jay Sharma revealed this week that The Voice judge has gotten immense praise from early audiences.
‘We were a bit nervous obviously, it was his first acting gig. But we just did some screeners of the film and it looks like Guy’s the best actor in the film right now,’ Sharma told Adelaide Now.
‘He’s the comic relief in the film and people love him.’
Hindi Vindi is slated for release in Australia next month and tells the story of an Aussie-Indian boy who goes on a musical journey.
Guy is taking on the role of James in the Ali Sayd-directed release and will appear on screen alongside Indian actors Neena Gupta and Mihir Ahuja.
As well as starring in the Bollywood film, Guy also brought his musical background to the project and created original songs for the soundtrack.

Sharing the exciting news with his fans on Instagram, Guy told how his Indian mother Nellie is very proud of his new venture.
He penned: ‘Well, this may seem out of the blue … I joined the cast of a Bollywood movie earlier this year!!
‘It was a surreal experience for me, working alongside a really stellar cast with iconic Bollywood actors, in my very first acting role – it was something that I will never forget.
‘Hindi Vindi is emotional and heartfelt, and tells the story of an Aussie-Indian boy and his musical journey. I was also fortunate enough to write and record original songs to support the soundtrack.

‘I am really proud of this project, and if anything at least I know I made my Indian mum proud! It will be released in theatres all over Australia in September!’
Guy rose to fame when he won the first season of Australian Idol in 2003 and he is now arguably best known as a judge on The Voice Australia.
However, Guy recently warned TV talent competition hopefuls that winning a show does not always guarantee career success.
Speaking to news.com.au last week, the ARIA Award winning singer shared: ‘After winning Idol, I never had the mentality, “OK, I’m all set!”‘
‘I wanted to be a sponge, learn as much as I could and run with it. Often, what surprises me is there’s still this mentality: “I’m going on the show and then my life will be set”.’
Sebastian also detailed the huge changes the music industry has gone through that has made it even more competitive since he won Australian Idol 21 years ago.
‘The world has changed so much. You have to work harder than ever before,’ he warned prospective contestants.
‘It’s not the landscape anymore where you’re young and you get signed – and then there’s this whole department that is just focused on creating an aura or an album or a sound for you.’
