After suffering a difficult through weeks as a family due to the injury, Greg took to his Instagram Stories on Wednesday and shared a worrying post.
He wrote: ‘We’re having a s*** time as a family at the moment so I’m cooking through it. Thanks for all your well wishes.’
His fiancé Susie – who he shares children Milo, eight, Rex, five, and Daphne, two, with – took to her own Instagram Stories to elaborate on their difficulties.

After suffering a difficult through weeks as a family due to the injury, Greg took to his Instagram Stories on Wednesday and shared: ‘We’re having a s*** time as a family at the moment’
She shared a snap of Greg asleep in bed with their daughter, and explained that both had been ‘poorly’, with Greg being diagnosed with whooping cough.
Susie penned: ‘Both of these two are poorly still – @gregjrutherford went to the docs & turns out he has whooping cough. Daph apparently doesn’t but is still under the weather’.
She then shared a snap of her three kids and their dog Gus beaming in a forest, but tragically revealed that their beloved pet had terminal cancer.
Susie recounted how they were told the news by the vet and prepared to say goodbye to him at the surgery, but that Gus had wanted to go home.
She admitted that it was ‘awful’ but that the family were taking the opportunity to enjoy their last moments with him.
She wrote: ‘And then we’ve had a really sad time with our lovely Gus 🙁 We were called by the vets to say goodbye to him a couple of days ago because it turns out he has a tumour in his intestines & lymph nodes, not spleen as we first thought.
‘We prepared ourselves for lots of cuddles and to leave him there, but he made it very, very clear he wanted to come home.
‘ So he’s back with us; eating every treat going and still wanting to go on walks. We’re taking it hour by hour and just enjoying the time we have left with him.

‘It’s awful but we’re grateful we’re getting these moments to show him how much we love him.’
She shared a clip of the whole family giving Gus lots of belly rubs and strokes, writing that he was ‘getting all the attention’.
Trying to stay positive in the midst of such a tricky time, Susie showed off her new manicure and wrote: ‘And in cheerier news, I had my nails done earlier this week & they’re cute. Trying to zone in on the happy stuff as much as we can’.
It comes after Greg recently shared his painful looking scar and the ‘insane swelling’ after his abdominal surgery.
Sharing several candid snaps, he wrote: ‘A little stomach update… I’m almost 4 weeks post op now and feeling so much better.
‘I can move around with almost no feeling of pain and the wound has now closed and healed. Pic 2 shows the insane swelling I initially had.
‘I can’t tense my abs properly still, but that’s coming. I also managed to put a ton of weight on since the op, so as soon as I’m ready I’ll be training to get myself trim again… maybe even back on skates.’
Greg only revealed what his ‘horrible’ Dancing On Ice injury was as he headed into hospital to have surgery.
The athlete said ‘effectively gave myself a C-section’ when he tried to skate through the legs of professional Colin Grafton in rehearsals.

He told fans: ‘Today is surgery day. Loads of people have been asking “what happened?”
‘I’ve been a bit busy and obviously just recovering from the initial injury before I had the surgery that I hadn’t got round to talking about it.
‘Long story short, I leapt through the legs of Colin and managed to tear all of my abs as well as herniate. So I effectively gave myself a C-section.
‘So yes, it was horribly painful. It needs to be operated on today and then I’ll be properly on the mend. It was very painful, pretty horrible.’
The Olympian was set to battle it all out against Ryan Thomas, Adele Roberts and Miles Nazaire for the trophy.
Ryan skated to victory and was crowned Dancing On Ice’s 2024 winner alongside pro partner Amani Fancy during the live final.
Greg, meanwhile, shared a video of himself and Vanessa James doing the bolero as he lamented that he missed the final and was a ‘bit heartbroken’.
He wrote: ‘Something that I really wish I could have performed… #Bolero Im almost 36 hours since the injury and watching the videos of what could have been. It’s bloody hard to take at this point as I know we could have shown something exciting and new with our final performances.
‘Of course the Bolero isn’t a given and I’ll post our showcase at some point too… I haven’t shown the end as I’m determined to actually perform it with Vanessa one day for everyone to see.
‘I’m really proud of what we achieved on the show. This take was from Saturday morning and we were marking for the double twist… the full program was truly beautiful. I’m a bit heart broken at the moment.’
