Greg James has taken a playful swipe at his former BBC comrade Jordan North after it was announced he would replace Roman Kemp as the host of Capital Breakfast.
Roman, 31, made an emotional announcement on Monday that he was stepping down from Capital Breakfast after 10 years of presenting.
Taking over from the famed host is former BBC Radio 1 drive time host Jordan, 34 – whose first show will be in April.
Jordan’s news was shared widely on social media and congratulatory messages flooded in, however Greg’s jibe hinted at the Northerner’s true motivation for making the switch.
‘Enjoy the money Jane xx,’ Greg replied on Instagram, in reference to an iconic tantrum from a Come Dine With Me contestant.

Roman proudly introduced the new broadcaster onto the breakfast show live on air on Monday morning.
Jordan – who is joining Capital from BBC Radio 1 – will officially start in April 2024 and be presenting alongside Chris Stark and Sian Welby. Roman’s last show will be on March 28.
Roman said: ‘You are going to absolutely love this Jordan. I have so much faith in you mate.
‘It’s hard leaving, it feels like your child, but you want it to go into good hands and I know with you it’s going to be just that. Everyone, send as much love as possible to Jordan.’
The son of Spandau Ballet’s Martin Kemp took a swipe at himself under Jordan’s announcement post.
‘What’s his dad famous for?’ the radio presenter asked in reference to his own famous heritage.
Jordan said: ‘I am beyond excited to be joining Global and to wake up the nation every morning on Capital – I can’t wait to start working with the amazing team here and get stuck in, to create the most fun and entertaining breakfast show.
‘Getting to host Capital Breakfast has always been a dream of mine and it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity that I simply couldn’t turn down.’

Capital Breakfast announced Jordan, 34, as the new presenter on Wednesday
It was revealed last week that the former I’m A Celeb star quit Radio One’s legendary Going Home show and is set to be replaced by Jamie Laing, 35, who will take his place – Monday to Thursday, 3.30pm to 6pm – alongside Vick Hope.
Shortly after news erupted, insiders revealed to The Sun that Jordan had signed a big money deal with the rival station.
The source said: ‘Jordan is moving to Capital FM to replace Roman and he could not be more excited. It is absolutely huge for him and although it’s hard to leave the BBC he is excited to get started on Capital.
‘Jordan’s decision has been a hard pill to swallow for the BBC but there was nothing they could do to change his mind.’
Speaking about how much Capital has meant to him, Roman seemed overcome with emotion as he confessed it wasn’t a decision he ever anticipated making.
He explained: ‘I’ve got a bit of an announcement, and it’s one that is really weird to say out loud. Really odd. If I’m totally honest I have no idea how I even start this.
‘I’m just going to come out and say it. This is going to be my last kind of six weeks on capital which is a weird thing to say.

Shaking off his emotions, he continued: ‘The last eight and a half years of my life have been so incredible being part of this machine right, it’s been the funniest, the saddest the most outright wild time being part of Capital and the Global family.
‘When you set out to do a job of this magnitude you never think that one day there will be a moment when you have to say goodbye. You never think that day will come.
‘What I can tell you is I’m not saying goodbye right now, I’m not leaving the show today and that’s it, but it’s not far away.
‘It will come and that goodbye will come in five to six weeks. It’s not a decision that has come overnight either, it’s massive, I’ve not found it easy at all.’
Roman lost his best friend and Global radio producer Joe Lyons to suicide back in August 2020, and the starred hinted at the tragedy as he referred to both his ‘best times’ and ‘absolute lowest’.
He added: ‘Capital is my family, you as the wonderful listeners that you’ve been, you’ve been with me at my best times and my absolute lowest … Capital and Global have helped change me.

As Capital shared the news over on their Instagram, Roman jokingly replied: ‘Only got the job because of his dad, good riddance I say’
Roman also took to his social media to issue his own statement as he added: ‘When I started this show I was told to remember it’s like a table at the pub with your friends and one chair is empty so the listener can come and join the laughs…’
‘I was 22 years old when I first joined Capital and it’s built me into the man that I am today, it is all that I know. But I know that now is the right time to leave and now is the right time to move on.’
Roman joined Capital in 2014 before hosting the prestigious The Capital Evening Show in 2016.
In 2017, he moved to Capital Breakfast before taking the show nationwide in 2019.
He continued: ‘You listening, and the people in this room, every single person in this room, my producing team, Sian and Chris, Sonny who has done it in the past and Vick Hope who had done it in the past. It’s everyone.
‘The next couple of weeks as I kind of approach the end of my time here on Capital, it’s going to be so tough. I love this place so much, I love it. I love the station, I love everything about it, Capital is my family.
‘And I also love the connection that you and I, the listeners, have built together. It’s changed. I know that it started out as me being just Martin Kemp’s son, I hope that now you can call me your friend.’
As Capital shared the news over on their Instagram, Roman jokingly replied: ‘Only got the job because of his dad, good riddance I say’.
Roman added: ‘I’ve loved every single moment of my time at Capital. The last 10 years have been amazing and hosting the legendary Capital Breakfast is the best job ever.

‘Well not it’s time for me to give my chair at the table to someone else.’
‘But after almost seven years of early alarms, I’m looking forward to some lie-ins and it’s time to hand over the baton!
‘It’s been a privilege and an honour to wake up millions of people every day. It’s the best job in radio and I’ll miss our listeners and the team at Global lots.
‘Whoever the next host of Capital Breakfast is, they’re in for the most incredible ride.’
