The Office US is reportedly set for a reboot in the wake of the WGA strikes.
The Steve Carell-fronted show, which ran for nine series from 2005 to 2013, is said to be returning to screens as writers Matthew Belloni and Jonathan Handel claimed creator Greg Daniels is working on a comeback.
On Sunday evening it was revealed that the The Writers Guild of America had struck a tentative deal with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers – but the Guild warned: ‘No one is to return to work until specifically authorized.’
In an article about the aftermath of the strikes for The Puck, former The Hollywood Reporter journalist Matthew and entertainment writer and lawyer Jonathan penned: ‘Greg Daniels is set to do a reboot of The Office, for instance’.
They mused over other projects saying: ‘Disney’s Dana Walden will finally be able to announce the return of her BFF Ryan Murphy from Netflix. A ton of high-profile movie scripts will come in. The industry will chug back to normal.’

Last year, Greg said: ‘I can’t tell whether fans would want more of it, and when I say more of it, I don’t think it would be the same characters…
‘I think it would just be sort of like an extension of the universe, you know what I mean, like the way ‘[The] Mandalorian’ is like an extension of ‘Star Wars.’ But I don’t know if that would be something people would want or not, it’s hard to tell.’
This US adaptation of the show, which is set at a paper company based in Pennsylvania, was inspired by the Ricky Gervais-led British original.
The Office became a cultural phenomenon when the US version was created, and the series finale was viewed by a staggering 5.69m in 2013.
The highest viewed episode was a two-parter in the fifth season called Stress Relief” and was watched by 22.9m viewers.
Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant created the original show with BBC’s The Office which ran for two seasons and a Christmas special from 2001 to 2003.
The whispers of The Office return comes after the demand for fairer wages drew Hollywood to a standstill, and those who dared carry on with production faced immense blowback that prompted them to cancel their shows once again.
But the WGA appeared to have reached a tentative labour agreement with major studios including Paramount, Sony and Universal on September 24.
Stars: Steve fronted the show throughout its run for nine series from 2005 to 2013 alongside Rainn Wilson, John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, B. J. Novak and Ed Helms

The deal is expected to end one of two strikes that have halted most film and television production and cost the California economy billions.
The WGA released a statement praising union members for remaining steadfast and demonstrating solidarity.
It read, in part: ‘We can say, with great pride, that this deal is exceptional—with meaningful gains and protections for writers in every sector of the membership.’
Before the three-year contract can take effect, it must be approved by members of the WGA, which is 11,500 people strong.
‘So, as you have been patient with us before, we ask you to be patient again—one last time,’ the Guild wrote.
The organization laid out a multi-step process to finalize the agreement culminating with leadership votes tentatively scheduled for September 26.
‘Once the Memorandum of Agreement with the AMPTP is complete, the Negotiating Committee will vote on whether to recommend the agreement and send it on to the WGAW Board and WGAE Council for approval,’ the statement read.

The Board and Council would then vote on whether to authorize a contract ratification vote by the membership.
If authorization was approved, the Board and Council would also vote on whether to lift the restraining order and end the strike at a certain date and time.
This would allow writers to return to work during the ratification vote, but would not affect their ability to make a final decision on contract approval.
Following this process, the Guild would hold meetings to inform members about the deal before they could vote on ratification.
However, writers were warned not return to work ‘until specifically authorized to by the Guild.’
In their statement, the Guild praised union members and wrote: ‘We can say, with great pride, that this deal is exceptional’
