Graham Norton Show Audience Member Alleges Cut Moment of Host Shutting Down Jodie Turner-Smith’s Inappropriate Question to Taylor Swift

Graham Norton has flooded with praise from fans after a TikToker claimed he jumped in to stop Jodie Turner-Smith’s awkward line of questioning towards Taylor Swift during last week’s episode of his chat show.

The two stars both appeared on the iconic red couch on Thursday, alongside fellow famous guests, Cillian Murphy, Greta Lee, Domhnall Gleeson and Lewis Capaldi.

Kicking off the promo trail for her new album, The Life Of A Showgirl, Taylor, 35, opened up about buying back the rights to her music and recent engagement to NFL star Travis Kelce.

But, one Swiftie, who was sat in the live audience when the show was filmed, has alleged there was one very awkward moment that was cut from the episode when it was broadcast the following day.

Sammie Nicole took to TikTok to share a video revealing what happened behind-the-scenes and several funny moments that viewers didn’t get to see.

However, she claimed that things became ‘uncomfortable’ at one point after Jodie, 39, began asking Taylor about her and Travis’ baby plans, causing host Graham to step in.

She explained: ‘This is a big one. When I was watching it I was like “Oh, they cut that out!” Which I’m not surprised that they did. 

‘There was a part when Graham was talking to Taylor about the upcoming wedding and planning it, and one of the other guests, Jodie, said to Taylor, “And what about babies?”

‘Now I know what she meant, she was asking Taylor, “Are you going to have babies soon?” But Taylor thought she was asking if babies were coming to the wedding, so Taylor went, “Oh no under-18s are coming, just adults!”

‘I feel that should have been the end of it, but it wasn’t, because Jodie then said, “No, no I mean are you going to have babies?”‘

Sammie was quick to criticize the alleged question, saying it was inappropriate especially in front of an audience and cameras.

She said: ‘I was like girl? First of all you don’t ask someone that, you should know better than to ask that. Especially on a television show, like she’s not going to answer that for you.

‘I just felt really uncomfortable when she said that. A, she might not want kids; B, she might not be able to have kids; and C even if she can and will, it’s none of your business. Don’t ask someone that.’

However, she claimed that Graham was the consummate professional, quickly interrupting to steer the conversation on.

She recalled: ‘Anyway, Graham was so on top of it. Instantly he went, “That’s an off-camera conversation to have.” And then they moved on. So that was a big one that got cut out.’

TikTok users were quick to praise Graham’s smooth hosting skills, while levelling criticism towards Jodie’s alleged question. 

They wrote: ‘Really glad Graham jumped in on the babies question because it is inappropriate, ESPECIALLY on a tv show. I can’t believe she asked that’; ‘And this is why the industry and public just LOVE Graham Norton’.

‘good on Graham for immediately not allowing that question to be humoured for even a second’; ‘Why did she think it’s appropriate to ask such personal question is beyond me.’

‘Omg thank god for graham stepping in like that wow, gained a lot of respect and appreciation for him and the show for knowing that wasn’t ok and cutting it off right away.’; ‘Good on Graham for shutting the baby question down!’

‘how awkward to ask her if she’s going to have children! in front of a huge audience too! thank goodness graham managed to move it on and also that it got cut’; ‘This has only made me love Graham more tbh!’

‘Graham is a fun and energetic host but also very sharp and professional. That was very well done to guide the conversation away from disaster’; ‘Good that Graham was quick thinking to move on’. 

During the show, Taylor teased her upcoming nuptials, as she revealed fans ‘will know’ when she ties the knot, but was putting the wedding off until after she’s finished promoting her new album. 

The hitmaker said: ‘You’ll know. I want to do the album stuff first, and the wedding is what happens after in terms of planning. I think it will be fun to plan.’

She proudly showed off her massive 10-carat diamond ring from Travis, which reportedly cost between $700,000 and $1,000,000, and shared the story of how he proposed to her in August.

The pop star explained the football player kept her distracted while setting up elaborate floral decorations in his garden, to ensure the proposal was a complete surprise.

She recalled: ‘So he really crushed it when it came to surprising me. Because we had actually filmed a podcast episode — he has a podcast called New Heights.

‘And meanwhile, behind his house, he was having the whole back garden turned into this,’ she said as she gestured to the photos showing the over-the-top, romantic display of flowers where he would ask her to marry him. 

‘And one of the things that he put in there very strategically was a wall of hedges that weren’t there before and inside the hedges was my tour photographer hiding in bushes that had not previously been there,’ she said.

As for how she felt about their intimate, low-key proposal at home, Taylor gushed: ‘He went all out. Ten out of 10.’

While she added how pleased she was that he made sure their engagement would be captured on camera, saying: ‘It’s really fun that we actually have the exact moment.’
