Govardhan Asrani, 80, The Lion King Actor, Dies After Illness

Disney star Govardhan Asrani, who is best known for his role in Disney’s The Lion King, has passed away at the age of 80. 

The Indian actor and director died on Monday after a prolonged illness, his manager confirmed, though his cause of death is yet to be revealed.  

Asrani’s manager, Babubhai Thiba, reportedly said: ‘Asrani passed away today at 3PM at Arogya Nidhi Hospital, Juhu. He is survived by his wife, sister, and nephew.’ 

Govardhan’s Bollywood career spanned over five decades and he is best known for voicing the character Zazu in the Hindi audio for The Lion King.  

Tributes have since flooded in from fans, with one sharing a post on Instagram and writing: ‘Thank you for making us laugh and cry. And showing us the reality that everything is momentary only.’

Others wrote: ‘Hindi cinema lost a gem. Asrani’s performances in Sholay and Chupke Chupke will always be remembered. His comic timing was unmatched,’;
