The 83rd Golden Globes delivered its trademark glitz and glamour, but left fans scratching their heads over the music choices.

The tunes included hits from the ’90s, 2000s and 2010s, and some songs seemed deliberately matched with certain presenters.

In one hilarious moment, Swedish actor Stellan Skarsgard — known for his often somber, gravitas-filled roles — took the stage to accept his Best Supporting Actor award for Sentimental Value as Usher’s high-energy 2004 R&B hit ‘Yeah!’ played in the background.

Meanwhile Home Alone star Macaulay Culkin’s return to the Golden Globes stage after 35 years was cheekily marked with the 1996 Mark Morrison hit ‘Return of the Mack.’

When Jennifer Lopez walked on the stage to present, the song ‘Like Jennie’ by South Korean singer and rapper Jennie played over the speakers.

Judd Apatow made his entrance to Rosé and Bruno Mars’s ‘APT’, whose chorus amusingly sounds a lot like ‘Apatow.’

In another cheeky music choice, Heated Rivalry actors Connor Storrie and Hudson Williams presented with Chappell Roan’s ‘Pink Pony Club’ playing in the background.

Meanwhile, Paul Thomas Anderson accepted the Best Screenplay of a Motion Picture award for One Battle After Another, with LMFAO’s 2011 hit Party Rock blasting in the background.

In another interesting choice, the upbeat song ‘Espresso’ by Sabrina Carpenter played in between the awards.

Commentators flocked to social media as they trolled the music choices at the ceremony.

‘The girl who did the music at the golden globes wanted to be at the club so badly,’ one commentator joked on X.

‘What millennial is in charge of the music at the golden globes? everything is from like 2007-2016 lmao.’

‘Playing usher for stellan was wild,’ another added.

‘The usher song for stellan was hilarious.’

‘What millennial is in charge of the music at the golden globes? everything is from like 2007-2016 lmao,’ one fan questioned on X

‘Playing apt for judd apatow made me laugh ngl,’ someone else chimed in.

‘who’s in charge of music in the golden globes? return of the mack for macaulay culkin? really.’

‘What in the 2000s Spotify Playlist is happening with the walk-up music at the Golden Globes?’

‘WHO WAS IN CHARGE OF THE MUSIC?’ another person asked.

‘The commentators and music choices during the Golden Globes were….a choice.’

‘Music choices controversial, categories disappearing, hosts questioned, Globes proving they’re as unpredictable as their winners.’

‘Who’s got the aux at the Golden Globes because the music choices are so insane but elite!’

One of the Golden Globe producers, Ricky Kirshner, explained the music choices in a new interview with Variety, stating they decided to go with ‘party’ music for the winners because some of the theme songs from the films are ‘downers.’

‘There’s a difference between a “play on” and a “winner walk up.” Return of the Mack, or APT. for Judd Apatow, were obviously clearly set up for those play ons.’

‘For the winners, we made the decision this year that we weren’t going to play their theme music, because sometimes those are downer songs,’ he explained.

‘As Glenn [Weiss] said, we’re there for a party, and there’s sometimes a 60 to 90 second walk up from the back of the room, and those songs aren’t really energetic.’

‘So for the “winner walk ups,” they were just set as party music, no matter who the winner was. For the ‘presenter play ons,’ those were more focused on who the presenter was.’
