Gogglebox Australia’s Star Reveals Cancer Diagnosis at 46: ‘It’s Been Rough’

Gogglebox Australia star Tim Lai has shocked his fans by revealing he has been diagnosed with an undisclosed type of cancer.

The 46-year-old reality TV star recently shared a clip to social media in which he opened up about the devastating impact it was having on his overall health. 

‘It has been a pretty rough trot. I have been, and still am, quite nauseous. I’m struggling to even sip water without wanting to throw up,’ Tim began.

He added he was in significant pain due to his body’s weakened state. 

‘I’m cramping a lot, pretty bad headaches, body pains, I get bruises quite easily. A tiny little scratch on my face has turned into an infection,’ he said. 

‘I’m just tired all the time, but I’m fighting fit. I’m very positive and I see light at the end of the tunnel. #update #health #medical #chemotherapy #cancer.’

Many of Tim’s celebrity friends quickly took to the comment section to offer their words of support. 

‘Oh darling, I’m so sorry to hear this. Sending you all the love and strength. So much love to you sweet angel x,’ wrote Tim’s co-star Angie Kent.

‘Love you Tim,’ added Isabelle Silberry. 

‘Sending you love and healing Tim. You are STRONG and you can get through ANYTHING,’ Sarah Marie Fahd chimed in.

Tim has been a regular on Channel Ten’s Gogglebox Australia since 2019, opposite his sister Leanne.

In 2020, fans took to social media to express their disbelief that Tim was in his 40s, given his incredibly youthful appearance.

‘I saw an article… no way Tim is [in his] forties. No way!’ one viewer wrote, referencing how young Tim looks. 

Tim himself has admitted he’s often mistaken for someone much younger, saying: ‘No one believes it until they see the driver’s licence!’

He previously joked to Daily Mail that he looks young because he ‘spent many years as a computer programmer locked in dark office buildings devoid of natural sunlight… No UV damage!’

Jokes aside, Tim admitted that as he ages, his focus has turned to his loved ones, who he says are essential to his day-to-day happiness.

‘Now that I am closing in on 50 – wow, that’s a big number – I think I’ve hit the jackpot, the secret to life… The secret is family,’ he said.

‘Whether it’s your biological or chosen family, finding your tribe, knowing you belong, being appreciated, feeling the love… that’s what keeps me young.’
