Glenn Close on Who Suggested Her 78-Year-Old Nude Scene

Glenn Close is baring it all — literally — at age 78.

The legendary actress opened up about filming a nude scene for her 2024 movie The Summer Book, giving audiences a rare peek at her birthday suit.

Based on the novel by Finnish author Tove Jansson, Close played a character called Grandmother, and the scene finds her wandering alone through the forest.

On any hesitation about going nude, she recently told AARP, ‘It was my idea.’

‘I thought that’s something she would do when no one else is around. In Finland, they’re much more used to nakedness than we are.’

She added, ‘I didn’t want to put my clothes back on. It felt so good.’

This isn’t Close’s first time pushing boundaries on-screen.

Back in 2019, she filmed a steamy sex scene for The Wife.

At the time, she told The Guardian, ‘It’s one of the great myths that you lose your sexuality as you get older. I feel as free and as creative, as sexual and as eager as I ever have.’

She added, ‘And it’s ironic because I’m thinking: “How much time do I have left now?”‘

Close has never shied away from playing characters with a fierce, sensual edge.

Over the years, Close has taken on roles that mix sexiness, power, and complexity, showing that getting older hasn’t slowed her down one bit.

Her steamy role in Fatal Attraction remains iconic, cementing her as a master of on-screen seduction.

She pushed boundaries again in Dangerous Liaisons, where her character’s manipulations and allure drove the scandalous plot.

Even in Albert Nobbs, she explored intimacy and desire in subtle, daring ways that challenged audience expectations.

Now, off-screen, Close is celebrating her first grandchild.

Her daughter, Annie, welcomed baby Rory Westaway Albu in February.

‘I now have a little grandson,’ Close told AARP. ‘He’s almost 7 months old. And I’m very aware of my role as grandmother. I’m very proud of it, and I love spending time with him.’

Close is keeping busy with her next big project.

In November, audiences will see her in Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, a star-studded ensemble murder mystery.

Daniel Craig returns as detective Benoit Blanc, investigating a murder in an upstate New York church, tangled up with ex-boxer priest Reverend Jud Duplenticy (Josh O’Connor) and the cantankerous Monsignor Jefferson Wicks (Josh Brolin).

The cast also includes Mila Kunis, Jeremy Renner, Kerry Washington, Andrew Scott, Cailee Spaeny, Daryl McCormack, and Thomas Haden Church.

Close plays Martha, a devout ‘servant of the church’ who keeps the altar spotless and the flowers perfectly arranged.

But, in true Glenn Close fashion, there’s more simmering beneath her prim exterior: ‘there’s a part of Martha that smolders underneath her black.’

She saw the film for the first time at its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this month and reflected on her life in acting.

‘I’ve been an actress for over 50 years and realize that I am a true introvert, but not with my fellow actors, not with what it takes to create something either onstage or on film,’ she told AARP.

‘That’s my heart home besides my own family. When you have all these different actors coming together, that’s heaven. That’s heaven.’
