Fans went wild for the new Netflix film.
‘I’ve heard so many great things about this… I can’t wait!’ exclaimed one enthusiastic fan on social media.
‘He definitely is the guy who can eliminate my problem ❤️,’ claimed another, adding that the Texas native was ‘an amazing and precious human being.’
Powell’s character faces a dilemma.
He’s good at this job, but his moral compass is thrown off true north when he’s approached by Adria’s Madison, a woman who wants to have her husband taken out.
The plot is loosely based on a 2001 Texas Monthly article by journalist Skip Hollandsworth.
Richard had been working on the idea for several years before teaming up with Glen. ‘We talked about this one little paragraph [in the article] about how Gary Johnson had met this woman who came to him for help and said, “I want to take out my husband,”‘ Glen told Entertainment Weekly.
‘It turns out she was actually in danger, and Gary befriended her. So I told Rick, “I think that’s the movie. Let’s follow that breadcrumb trail.”‘
Instead of making the film a crime drama, the scribes turned it into a romantic comedy.

The Anyone But You star said the result was they ‘took this fascinating character and made it a really compelling love story that explored the essence of passion, identity, and humanity.’
Adria joined the project after the script had been completed, but said she was allowed a lot of input into the character.
‘Rick and Glen gave me an open floor to pitch all my ideas. Some were good and landed in the movie, others were awful and I was made fun of for them for a minute. But it was a really cool process.’
Since the movie debuted at the Venice Film Festival, it’s received Official Selection accolades at the Toronto International Film Festival and the BFI London Film Festival.
