Ageing is something that Hollywood’s biggest stars try to avoid at all costs, but Gillian Anderson thinks it’s her secret weapon.
The Sex Education and The Crown actress has been named a global ambassador for L’Oréal Paris, the world’s largest beauty brand, and will front the new Age Perfect campaign.
The 56-year-old said in the campaign: ‘They say your best years are behind you. I’m just getting started.’
‘I wish that in those early years I would not have wasted so much time on my doubts. Age has never been a limit, it’s an advantage. My advice for facing doubt is to say f*** you. I leap before I give myself a chance to be afraid.
‘And then there was a certain point where I stopped caring so much. It’s very easy for young women to feel less than what they see here,’ she added, mimicking a phone.
The mother-of-three added: ‘Sorority for me is about support, it’s about seeing the similarities between us as women. We’re not just strong, we’re unstoppable. I can say it and own it and I believe it. I’m worth it.’

She joins a distinguished roster of L’Oréal Paris ambassadors, including Kendall Jenner, Jane Fonda, Céline Dion and Andie MacDowell.
Delphine Viguier-Hovasse, global president of L’Oréal Paris, said: ‘Not only is she a true icon with a decades-long career that spans stage and screen, but she shares our mission at L’Oréal Paris to empower women to celebrate their beauty at every age.
‘With her history of inspiring women, elevating their stories and fighting for their rights, she encourages all of us to defy conventional timelines and be unstoppable – no matter our age.’
The X-Files star is also a best-selling author of Want: Sexual Fantasies by Anonymous.
She took on the role of Blanche in 2014’s theatre adaptation of A Streetcar Named Desire and played ex-BBC journalist Emily Maitlis in Scoop.
In 2017, she co-authored WE: A Manifesto for Women Everywhere, and in 2022, she launched the podcast What Do I Know?!, which explored sexual liberation.
It comes after Gillian delighted X-Files fans by reuniting with her former co-starDavid Duchovny at the 2025 Screen Actors Guild Awards.

They took the stage at the Shrine Auditorium in downtown Los Angeles to present the award for outstanding ensemble cast in a drama series.
The pair hilariously fumbled through the task, to the point that a woman could at one point be heard shouting instructions at them from backstage.
‘We still got it,’ said Gillian drily, before she and her old co-star handed out the prize to the cast of the buzzy period drama Shogun.
Gillian and David’s latest award show appearance comes 28 years after she famously kissed him at the Emmy Awards when she won for The X-Files.
The moment fell under searing public scrutiny because Gillian planted a smooch on David before she kissed her then-boyfriend Rodney Rowland.
Last year, Gillian posted an Instagram video in which she finally revealed why she turned her attention to David before her real-life love interest.
‘I don’t know why I kissed him first,’ Gillian confessed: ‘I guess because he was on the show with me and we were practically married because we spent more time with each other than we did with our loved ones. We were there to celebrate the series and so yeah. Maybe? Maybe that’s what it was?’
