The personal trainer who helped turn Ryan Reynolds into a superhero has revealed the secrets behind the Hollywood legend’s astonishing physique.

New York based fitness guru Don Saladino, who has worked with the star for 15 years said he developed a special program for Reynolds new film Deadpool and Wolverine, which co-stars Hugh Jackman.

He said since Reynolds is now 47 the focus for his training was ‘resilience’ and not ‘mindless effort’.

Saladino, 47, made the comments in a new interview with Australian Men’s Health and also detailed Reynolds workout program.

The celebrity trainer explained that he admires Reynolds’ amazing motivation. 

‘This is a guy that ”going easy” doesn’t exist in his vocabulary…so when someone like that is thinking about taking a day off and recovering, I’m patting myself on my back, because we’ve taught him to understand that [recovery is] really important’ he said.

The celebrity trainer said that part of his focus was getting the Bullet Train actor to work on his muscle endurance using high reps sets.

Saladino’s Deadpool routine for Reynolds included barbell rows for back strength and an incline dumbbell curl to strengthen the biceps.

Reynolds also did a single-arm ‘suitcase carry’ with a dumbbell for core strength and the upper back and forearms to get himself buff for the beloved superhero character.

Deadpool & Wolverine starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman is slated for release on July 26 and will see the two superheroes joining forces in an action-packed spectacular.

The trailer has hinted at a rivalry between the pair as they are shown fighting one another in a tense stand-off before reluctantly joining forces in a comedic pairing.

It comes after Hugh Jackman revealed the toughest part of returning to the role of Wolverine was that in his 50th decade ‘age catches up’.

And the training to transform himself into the buff big screen beast is tougher than ever.

‘The hardest bit … [was] the food,’ the Prisoners actor told People magazine in June.

‘I have to eat a lot. For me, for my body type, I’m naturally skinny. To get the size on, that’s the hardest bit. That’s the bit that does my head in.’

He added: ‘My body was a little sore at the beginning, but I was thrilled that my body was still responding. And I realised how good it is for your brain.

Hugh has played the Marvel character in eight X-Men films from 2000 until 2016, and was last seen as Wolverine in standalone movie Logan in 2017.

Deadpool and Wolverine will be the 10th time the Aussie has strapped on the big claws for the popular role.
