Georgia Harrison Explores ‘Alternative Parenting’ and Asks for Free Birthing Advice

Georgia Harrison revealed she was exploring ‘alternative parenting’ as she asked for advice on free birthing and burying the placenta.

The former Love Island star, 30, is expecting her first child with her boyfriend Jack Stacey with her due date believed to be in a month.

In an update to her Instagram Story on Wednesday, Georgia said that she was hoping to speak to mothers who had gone through certain experiences.

She wrote: ‘I’m looking for someone who has gone through the experience of a lotus birth or is planning too and also anyone who has a hard birth story they would be happy to talk about that has effected them. Either natural or C section.

‘Also any sort of out of the normal parenting like free birthing, burying the placenta, eating the placenta etc please get in touch.’

A lotus birth is where the umbilical cord is left attached to the placenta until it falls off on its own.

The method is hailed by some as a ‘natural’ option with a wave of benefits, such as easing the transition from the womb to the world and giving the child an extra supply of nutrients.

However, doctors are warning against the postpartum fad because they claim it can lead to bacteria and an infection.

Free birthing is where expectant mothers don’t have scans or medical checks and give birth without assistance.

In the UK if you decide to have an unassisted birth, you can change your mind at any time during your pregnancy or labour. NHS midwives will always be available to support you.

‘A midwife can offer you support and advice during labour, and check on the health of you and your baby. They’ll know if you or your baby need help, and can arrange for medical attention if needed.

‘If you have an unassisted birth, you’ll need to tell (notify) the NHS and local child health services that your baby has been born. This is because by law every birth in England needs to be recorded (notified) within 36 hours.

‘You’ll get your baby’s NHS number for their NHS care once your baby has been checked by a midwife, health visitor or GP.’

Meanwhile, Placentophagy, or the act of eating placentas, has become popular with celebrities like Kim Kardashian-West and January Jones indulging in the process.

Proponents of placentophagy have accredited the process with preventing and reducing postpartum depression, improving mood, boosting energy, improving lactation and being a general benefit to new mothers.

In some cultures, new mother bury the placenta in the ground as part of a ritual, tradition, or symbolic reasons.

While Georgia’s lived her life in the spotlight since she first appeared on Love Island in 2017, her partner has a ‘normal’ job.

But despite this relative juxtaposition of worlds, she believes that the pair would still have the ability to make a great reality TV show of their own.

The couple, who met on an app, have had a whirlwind romance and announced their pregnancy in April – just 10 months into their relationship.

Georgia told The Sun: ‘I think it would be really fun to do a reality TV show based around motherhood.’

Speaking at an event for mums-to-be, hosted by AnuSol Peach Playtime, Georgia added: ‘I think I’ve shared so much of the harder parts of my life through television.

‘It would be really nice to actually be filming something that was highlighting the most important part of my life, which is when I actually found a happy ending, becoming a mother, getting to a stage that I’m actually having a lot of fun.’

Georgia, however, admitted that any potential reality TV show would have to be filmed ‘down the line’.

She added: ‘But I don’t know what parenthood is going to be like yet. So, you know, when you do agree to film any sort of show, it is so much tougher than it looks.

‘It’s not just like a camera pops in for an hour. You are filming like 10 to 12 hours a day.’

As Jack is not familiar with the world of reality TV, Georgia stressed that she’d have to be comfortable joining her in the spotlight.
