George Clooney made his Broadway debut in the adaptation of Good Night, And Good Luck in NYC on Thursday – but his wife Amal was notably absent during the festivities.
The Ocean’s Eleven actor, 63 – who recently shared why he has quit starring in romantic comedies – opened up about the beauty, 47, not making an appearance at event which drew in many celebrities such as Julia Roberts and Jennifer Lopez.
While at the Winter Garden Theater where the play is currently being shown, Clooney explained that Amal is ‘with the kids,’ per People.
The couple – who tied the knot back in 2014 – are parents to seven-year-old twins Alexander and Ella.
George revealed that both he and his family had temporarily moved to the Big Apple for the duration of his time in the Broadway production – with shows set to conclude on June 8.
The star not only took on the leading role of CBS journalist Edward R. Murrow – but also co-wrote the screenplay with Grant Heslov.

A few months earlier in February, the actor stopped by The Late Show With Stephen Colbert and shared how Amal and their kids feel about being in NYC for six months.
‘They love New York! Amal went to NYU, so she’s been here many times,’ he explained, and then added they are ‘having a really fun time.’
George continued, ‘I mean, come on, how do you not love this, it’s New York City. They love being here.
‘Actually, a play is kind of a good schedule because, you know, you’re working at night, you get to see the kids during the day, so it’s okay.’
Clooney also told GQ about the move last year, ‘That’s going to be six months of my life in New York. But again, it’s like we’re talking about time allotment. I won’t do another thing.
‘I’m going to give myself time with my kids. I really enjoy driving them to school, and my wife and I are having a really wonderful time. So I don’t want to lose all of that.’
He further expressed to the outlet, ‘But this is an opportunity to do something that I have never done before. I’ve never been on Broadway…’
Good Night, And Good Luck is an adaptation of the 2005 film of the same name – which George also starred in alongside David Strathairn, Patricia Clarkson and Robert Downey Jr.

Clooney and Grant Heslov also wrote the script for the movie – which was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.
The premise of the Broadway production is: ‘Tune in to the golden age of broadcast journalism and Edward R. Murrow’s (Clooney) legendary, history-altering, on-air showdown with Senator Joseph McCarthy.
‘As McCarthyism casts a shadow over America, Murrow and his news team choose to confront the growing tide of paranoia and propaganda, even if it means turning the federal government and a worried nation against them.’
The story also ‘chronicles a time in American history when truth and journalistic integrity stood up to fearmongering and disinformation – and won,’ per an official description.
Other cast members in the production also include Marc Brandt, Will Dagger, Ilana Glazer, Georgia Heers, Jennifer Morris and Clark Gregg.

Jennifer Lopez looked stunning in a low-cut black dress for the event
While recently talking to Broadway.com, Clooney discussed his debut on the Broadway stage and his return to theater after 39 years.
‘I never expected to come to Broadway. I kind of thought that ship had sailed long ago,’ he admitted. ‘We did a table read on Monday with all these fantastic young actors – beautiful, smart, talented.
‘And I’m sitting there thinking, “I haven’t done a play since they were born.” It’s been a long time. So I’m rightfully nervous.’
The star also expressed, ‘More than anything, I don’t want to do a disservice to it. That’s my greatest goal. I have people I’m responsible for. Listen, it’s fun to be 63 and go, “I don’t know.” That’s not a bad thing. It’s humbling.’
To get into character, Clooney had to dye his silver locks a brown color – which the actor said his wife is not a fan of.
In February the star told the New York Times: ‘My wife is going to hate it because nothing makes you look older than when an older guy dyes his hair. My kids are going to just laugh at me nonstop.’

And while stepping onto the stage on Thursday, he looked unrecognizable as he portrayed Edward R. Murrow.
Following the performance, the star was seen joining the cast as they stood in front of the crowd inside the theater.
During his interview with Stephen Colbert in February, Clooney reflected on penning the screenplay to the film 20 years earlier ‘because I was being called a traitor in the country for being against the war in Iraq.
‘Forever, we’ve had this issue where power kind of hates the fourth estate, they hate journalism,’ he said.
‘And my father’s an anchorman and a newsman and we’ve always believed in the idea that when the other three estates – the judiciary branch, the executive branch [and the legislative branch] – when the all fail you, you need that fourth estate.
‘And this is a moment of us at our best. And I like the idea of seeing ourselves at our best, I think that’s an exciting thing to do,’ George added.
