George Clooney, 64, Reflects on Past Drug Use and Wild Trip Gone Wrong

George Clooney has admitted to drug use in the past.

In the October/November issue of Esquire magazine, the 64-year-old movie icon shared that he had tried cocaine and other ‘stuff’ in his youth.

‘Eighty-two, I tried—I did blow and stuff,’ he admitted. In 1982 he was 21-years-old. It would be another two years before he landed his star-making role on TV’s ER.

‘I used to make jokes about how I did too many drugs, but the truth is, it was never a big issue for me at all,’ shared the married father of two.

‘And look, there was an episode of Taxi where they’re all doing blow. At the time, it was like, “No, this is not like heroin. It’s not addictive.”

‘But then it was like, “Oh, well, it’s actually pretty f***ing bad.” Plus, it was all cut with mannitol. The baby laxative. Everybody would do a line and then take a s***.’

And the silver fox star also said he had a very bad trip one night when he tried pot brownies with some of his friends.

The star said he couldn’t talk for hours after watching The WIzard Of Oz while listening to Pink Floyd’s Dark Side Of The Moon.

‘We were f***ed. I literal—I think all of us—there was like twenty of us in the screening room, and the movie ended, and we sat there without speaking for, like, hours. Hours! Like the sun was coming up and we’re—it’s just not my drug.”

This comes after Clooney joked that his children still like him.

The actor has eight-year-old twins Alexander and Ella with his wife Amal Clooney and joked that he still has the love of his family, unlike his titular character in the new movie Jay Kelly.

Asked about the differences between himself and his alter ego, George told People at the flick’s New York Film Festival premiere: ‘We have the same hair and we’re the same height.

‘There (aren’t) that many similarities in a weird way, because he’s a guy who’s just so sad about his career and his life, because he didn’t have friends and family.’

The Ocean’s Eleven star added: ‘He surrounded himself with people that he paid. And I’ve been very lucky to not have to do that.

‘I’ve been very lucky to have great family and great friends, and my kids actually like me still. They’re young.’

Meanwhile, George admitted earlier this month that he is extremely worried about his children being exposed to social media sites such as Facebook and Instagram.

In an interview with fellow actor Julia Roberts for 72 Magazine, the former E.R. star explained: ‘I don’t know how to do it [use social media].

‘I’m not on any of them, but only because I find that my life is so much simpler without doing it. But I worry about kids. I worry about my kids, obviously…

‘The risks are so much bigger and the consequences follow you for so much longer. I’m worried about my kids; we keep them off the internet as much as we can.

‘But, you know, some of their homework is done on a computer. And they do like to watch a good Snoopy movie and things like that.’

Clooney also revealed that he believes that he has been the ‘recipient of a lot of luck’ during his life.

He told AARP: ‘I think the only life lesson is to bet on yourself. And when there’s opportunities, you gotta go.

‘In my life, I have been the recipient of a lot of luck. But I also believe you create opportunities for luck. You create enough opportunity and, every once in a while, you’ll hit one.’

George strives to live a ‘really full life’, instead of worrying about potential problems.

He said: ‘There’s no rhyme or reason for who gets to age and who doesn’t. So you should live as if you’re not going to get to. And then, if you wake up one day and you’re old, you’ve lived a really full life.’
