She told MailOnline in an exclusive interview, that before she even tries to lose weight she had to deal with the gruelling hurdles of an underactive thyroid, Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), metabolic syndrome and low iron levels.
She explained that she has always loved herself and she has never looked at her body and thought it was ‘disgusting’ but knew there came a time when she had to do something about it.
The TV personality said she will not spend her life being unhappy and skinny when she can carry on being her bubbly self while eating a bowl of garlic king prawns.
Gemma told MailOnline: ‘I’ve always loved myself. To be honest, I’ve never looked at myself and thought, ”Oh, I’m disgusting”. I mean, there’s always b******t I could do with losing a bit of weight.
‘But as I say, you know, I’m not going to spend my life being unhappy. I’ve got four things going against me before I’ve even started with PCOS, the underactive thyroid, and the metabolic syndrome.
‘You know, it’s all these things, but I’m constantly at a negative before I’m at a positive. I don’t let it get me down.
‘This is me. You know Hugh Jackman, The Greatest Showman. It’s such a powerful song. This is me. And I don’t think anyone would want a boring, miserable GC.
‘I have done every diet under the sun. I did start Slimming World before last month, and it was amazing. But then I’ve been working ever since.
‘I haven’t been able to go for two weeks, but yeah, I think I’ll be going heading back there, but, I just love myself at the end of the day, you know, you just got to stay positive about yourself, you know, can’t let it get you down.’
