Gayle King has revealed that her comments about Oprah Winfrey’s recent health woes led to the TV host getting a frenzy of messages from her loved ones who said they were ‘praying’ for her, while she was simply battling a bad case of ‘diarrhea.’
Earlier this week, Gayle, 69, revealed that best friend Oprah, 70, was in the hospital after suffering from ‘some kind of stomach flu’ that resulted in ‘stuff coming out of both ends’ while chatting with CBS Mornings.
Immediately, she worried that she might have ‘offended’ Oprah by speaking out about her illness on national television.
And now, she has opened up about what Oprah’s response was to her very public admission, and she insisted that the acclaimed TV star was ‘not upset’ with her.
However, she admitted that her comments sparked unnecessary concern for Oprah.

‘I’m here to tell you, Oprah is OK,’ Gayle said during a recent episode of Sirius XM’s Gayle King in the House.
‘She had a stomach flu. [And] it wasn’t just her, several people around her got the stomach flu.
‘I said on air that stuff was coming out of both sides. It was a mess. She had to go to the hospital, and she got an IV drip. She is fine.’
In response to people who accused her of ‘oversharing,’ Gayle explained that she through she didn’t say anything too personal.
‘Here’s the thing, I would’ve never said anything that I wouldn’t say about myself,’ she continued. ‘So I really didn’t think it was a big deal.’
As for how Oprah reacted, she explained that the 70-year-old wasn’t angry, but was surprised by the world’s reaction.
‘When I called her, she goes, “I don’t know why people are acting like diarrhea is unusual. Sometimes people have it,”‘ Gayle dished.

Gayle then added, ‘I hope she’s not mad at me for sharing that detail.’

‘You were trying to do is explain why I wasn’t there, and doing that in a definitive way,’ Oprah said.
The OWN founder also said she hadn’t been hospitalized but that she was in the emergency room due to dehydration.
‘I couldn’t keep enough water down to get hydrated so I went to the emergency room for that and that’s just it,’ the star continued.
Gayle then observed, ‘You’re still a little weak-ish, it seems,’ and Oprah agreed, adding, ‘I’m not 100 [per cent]. I’m on my way to 100.’
She also disclosed, ‘Five people in my household had the same thing. I would say keep your hands washed because I hear it’s being transmitted through… the doctor told me that [the virus] lives on the doorknobs and railings for like, 10 hours.’
