Game of Thrones Star Unrecognizable on New Detective Series in Manchester

Dressed in police uniform and clutching a hot water bottle, Lena Headey could’ve been forgiven for wishing she was back in Westeros as she prepared for an early start on the set of her new drama.

Indeed, the Seven Kingdoms appeared to be a distant memory as work began on Charlie Brooker’s new crime drama in a chilly Manchester on Monday morning.

The creative force behind dystopian anthology series Black Mirror confirmed plans for the four-part detective series, which is currently untitled, in September.

And Headey, 51, appeared to be ready for action during her first appearance on set after signing up for a yet to be specified role.

The actress, best known for her role as murderous Cersei Lannister in HBO drama Game Of Thrones, will star alongside British stars Paddy Considine and Georgina Campbell in the new drama.

Evidently prepared for a long day, Headey arrived with a hot water bottle before trading it for the collected works of poet Lucas Carpenter she mingled with crew-members.

She was later joined by Considine, another Game Of Thrones star courtesy of his role as doomed King Viserys I Targaryen in prequel series House Of The Dragon.

A tongue-in-cheek logline for the forthcoming series describes it as “profoundly serious, stunningly original crime thriller in which a tormented detective from the Northern city of Bleakford ventures down to London on a mission to catch a ritualistic serial killer before they run out of people to kill. Contains blood and frowning.”

Outlining his latest project in an accompanying statement, Brooker said: ‘I’m beyond thrilled to be saying these words for the press release.

‘I’ve dreamt of providing a quote ever since I was a young foetus, and now here I am doing it. I’d pinch myself, but like all of us, I’m terrified that if I do that, I might wake up and discover 2025 has all been a magical dream.

‘Please watch my show. I am begging you.’

Brooker’s new show will see him reunite with cast-member Campbell, who previously starred in Black Mirror series four instalment Hang The DJ.

It’s understood that Brooker has co-written the new show in collaboration with Ben Caudell, Jason Hazeley, Emer Kenny, Daniel Maier, Joel Morris, and Victoria Asare Archer.

Deadline report he will also serve as executive producing alongside Annabel Jones and Jessica Rhoades.

Elsewhere Mark Kinsella has signed up as co-executive producer, while Richard Webb will serve as producer alongside director Al Campbell.

Brooker previously devised Sky’s comedy-crime drama A Touch Of Cloth, starring John Hannah and Suranne Jones.

The announcement follows Black Mirror returning for a seventh season, which drew mixed reactions from its large fan base.

Black Mirror is described as a ‘mind-bending anthology series that reveals humanity’s worst traits, greatest innovations and more,’ according to the synopsis.

Like Black Mirror, his new series series will stream on Netflix. A release date is yet to be announced.
