From brothel gift cards to blow-up dolls: Australian celebrities reveal the WORST Christmas presents they have ever received

It’s meant to be the season for giving, but for some Australian celebrities Christmas has delivered more awkward moments than festive cheer.

While many A-listers have received incredibly thoughtful gifts over the years – including Lady Gaga receiving a horse from her record label – others admit they’ve been left scratching their heads over presents that were confusing, impractical or plain bizarre.

Married At First Sight star Nasser Sultan told Daily Mail he is regularly sent gifts from his fans – some of which are completely inappropriate.

‘One person gave me a $200 gift voucher to a male w***ehouse, to get a massage in Sydney,’ he explained.

He said the gift was particularly confusing as he is not gay and has dated several high-profile women in the past, including SBS star Karla Grant.

‘I was like, “Oh my Lord”. So, I gave it to my neighbour,’ he joked.

Nasser revealed another bizarre gift he once received was an X-rated product from an adult store.

‘I got a blow-up doll, it was hilarious… I think I still have it, I should sell it on eBay,’ he said.

He added that he just wanted something simple for this year, such as a gift voucher to a nice restaurant.

Meanwhile, comedian Tanya Hennessy told Daily Mail she was once regifted a present from someone – that she had given them the previous year.

‘One year I got a gym membership and I was like, “no”. You know, people are so mean,’ she said.

She also mentioned receiving a nose hair trimmer, a gift she found rather insulting.

‘I was like, well, “this is suggestive”. Maybe I do need to see a waxer more regularly,’ she joked.

‘You know when people just give you, like, the gym membership, that was like, back in the day. You know, like, early 2000s – no one would do it now, hopefully.’

Meanwhile, some of Australia’s most glamorous celebrities have recalled getting some truly shocking stocking stuffers.

Speaking to Nine Honey back in 2019, AFL WAG Bec Judd said she disliked ‘double-ups’ under the tree.

Veteran presenter Sylvia Jeffreys, meanwhile, poked fun at her brother for once gifting her with a toy from inside a McDonald’s Happy Meal.

‘My brother once gave me a Coca-Cola yo-yo which he’d pulled out of a Happy Meal,’ she recalled.

Meanwhile, Today show co-host Karl Stefanovic revealed the strangest present he ever received came from his younger sibling.

‘The worst one I’ve received was a bread maker from my brother Pete,’ he bemoaned.

Today Extra co-host David Campbell chimed in to say he once received a present so shocking that an ‘accident’ befell it on the way home.

Channel Nine veteran Richard Wilkins admitted he himself was once a bad gift-giver, after he struggled to find something for a cousin he forgot to shop for.

‘I remember my cousin came over for Christmas and I found some bits and pieces that I dredged out of the closet and wrapped. Only after they unwrapped it and we were eating the chocolates I realised they were three years past use-by,’ he joked.

Veteran radio star Chrissie Swan knows the secret to buying the perfect Christmas present for a loved one.

‘The real joy of getting a gift is knowing a person thought about you and found something just for you,’ Chrissie told Women’s Weekly in 2023.

‘It’s a skill to make someone feel good. For my daughter’s birthday, [my son] Leo went into a shop in the city he knew she would like and bought her a little cross-body bag.

‘I had nothing to do with it. Really sweet. I’m thrilled with my kids, they’re gorgeous.’
