Friendship Fallout Shakes Sydney’s Elite After Socialite’s Split

New love is on the menu for Sydney hospitality figure Eddie Levy

Levy, the restaurateur behind Double Bay hotspots Tanuki and Matteo, was in an eight-year relationship with socialite Kimmy Smalls – with all signs pointing to a lavish proposal befitting an eastern suburbs culinary king.

But it wasn’t meant to be. Sources say the pair quietly called things off late last year.

Eddie is now in a new relationship with McGrath real estate agent Jaimee Curdie.

While Eddie remains as private as ever, keeping his Instagram on lockdown, his new squeeze isn’t shy about flaunting their romance.

Jaimee debuted their relationship online in February, sharing a rather unsubtle photo of herself licking Eddie’s face while riding on the back of his motorcycle.

In recent months, Jaimee has shared even more loved-up photos with Eddie on her public Instagram, while he’s been responding with emojis in the comments.

The new relationship, while hardly a secret, flew under the society radar for months.

Indeed, it didn’t enter the eastern suburbs rumour mill until gossips started noticing that ‘It’ girl Dina Broadhurst was liking all of Jaimee’s posts featuring Eddie.

You see, Dina and Kimmy used to be best friends back in the day, with one source describing the two as ‘thick as thieves’.

Kimmy was apparently Dina’s shoulder to cry on after her split from long-term boyfriend Max Shepherd back in 2023.

Fast-forward to now, their friendship seems to have cooled – and Dina’s enthusiastic liking of Eddie and Jaimee’s photos together has seemingly made her loyalties clear.

Dina and Kimmy haven’t been seen together in months, insiders say, nor has Kimmy appeared on Dina’s Instagram feed for quite some time.

What happened between them remains a mystery, but almost a year on from the break-up, Dina looks to be firmly on Team Jaimee.

Meanwhile, a reportedly heartbroken Kimmy has gone to ground since her split with Eddie, deleting her Instagram altogether.

Eddie last made headlines after a fiery war of words with celebrity chef Neil Perry, sparked by the launch of Perry’s new Double Bay restaurant, Gran Torino – directly across the road from Eddie’s established hotspot, Matteo.

Eddie, who opened Matteo in 2017, couldn’t resist taking potshots at Perry’s habit of shuttering venues, then reopening new ones in the same spot.

‘Hopefully [Gran Torino] goes better than Rosetta, Jade Temple, Song Bird etc. etc. Otherwise you guys can always try Mexican next – heard that could work… let us know if we can assist you any further.’

Perry’s beloved Italian restaurant Rosetta closed in May 2024 after 12 years in business amid large-scale redevelopments at Crown Melbourne, where it was once located.

Jade Temple, Perry’s Cantonese (later pan-Asian) fine-dining restaurant, shuttered in 2018, exactly a year on from its grand opening, after a menu overhaul was unable to save it.

Similarly, Song Bird, once an ambitious three-level Chinese mega-restaurant, served its final wonton on August 3, almost a year after it opened.

The restaurant’s downfall was attributed to struggles with overscale – Perry admitted he ‘missed the mark’ with the three-level layout – as well as a rushed opening, staffing issues and equipment failures.

Despite these setbacks, Perry remains one of Australia’s most celebrated and successful restaurateurs, with an empire that has included Rockpool, Spice Temple and, of course, Australia’s top steak restaurant, Margaret.

Matteo is regarded as one of Double Bay’s trendiest trattorias thanks to its relaxed atmosphere and authentic Italian menu.

Eddie has also established himself in Double Bay as co-owner of the Japanese favourite Tanuki.

Tanuki made headlines earlier this year when an influencer customer hurled a table lamp at her ex-boyfriend’s head after seeing him dining out with his new partner.
