Actress Elaine Hendrix from Parent Trap

At age 12, Lindsay became a star in The Parent Trap playing long-separated twins who hatch a plan to reignite the romance between their divorced mother (Natasha Richardson) and father (Dennis Quaid).

Elaine Hendrix featured as the father’s gold-digging girlfriend, Meredith Blake, and she has now reunited with Lindsay in Freakier Friday for a surprise cameo.

The actress appears in a photoshoot scene for a pop star Lindsay’s character manages, and joined the actress as well as their fellow Parent Trap co-star Lisa Ann Walter at the film’s premiere earlier this year.

Director Nisha Ganatra told ELLE:  ‘The fun call I got to make was, we were filming a scene, and I really wanted Elaine Hendrix to make an appearance. I called Elaine, and I was like, “Would you please do a cameo?”‘

‘And she just came out and did that. I was doing my fantasy version of this movie, hoping anybody else would catch on to all the little Easter eggs of Parent Trap and Mean Girls’.

Mean Girls throwback

Lindsay’s character’s wedding in the movie is happening on October 3rd, which is also an important day in her movie Mean Girls.

In an iconic quote from the 2004 cult film, Linsday’s Kady Heron has a crush on Aaron Samuels and makes a note of any interaction they have.

To her pals recalls: ‘On October 3rd, he asked me what day it was’ before it cuts to her telling him: ‘It’s October 3rd’.

However the actress admitted to Collider that it was just an accident and nobody realised until the dates were already printed on the invitations ahead of filming.

‘Because it was one of the first days shooting and I was like, ‘Does anyone realise this is October 3rd? That’s Mean Girls Day. I was like: “Let’s leave it, it’s an Easter egg”‘.

Anna’s original guitar

In the original Lindsay’s character was a budding musician who performed with her rock band and in the sequel she is a successful music manager.

What many fans may not have noticed is that filmmakers managed to track down the original red guitar she played to once again rock out with all these years later.

As well as playing it at the beginning of the movie, Lindsay also uses it for her performance in the closing scenes.

Jake’s date

Chad Michael Murray played love interest Jake in the original, who falls for Anna but only after she has swapped bodies with her mum Tess.

In Freaky Friday she gives her parent a full makeover, much to the hunk’s delight and together they ride off on his motorbike.

Now in a sequel Jake is a guest at Anna’s wedding and his girlfriend is the spitting image of Tess post make-over with tie dye dress and pixie cut.

The director revealed she came up with the idea at the last minute and the crew quickly worked to get their hands on exactly the same dress Jamie Lee wore in the original.

Like Mother Like Daughter

The movie opens just like the original, but now Anna is the mum and instead of being dragged out of bed like she needed to be, she a much gentler parent and softly wakes daughter Harper (Julia Butters)

Later and again in similar scenes, while dropping the teen off at school, Anna calls out: ‘Make good choices’.

With Tess giving her a knowing look, clearly impressed that her daughter has followed in her footsteps.

Jamie Lee revealed why there was such a long gap between the two releases as she admitted she has long had her eye on a follow-up movie.

‘The truth is that Lindsay had to be old enough to have a 15-year-old daughter, people would ask me about the movie over and over again,’ she shared on The One Show.

‘And finally someone in Australia said, ”well she is” and I was like ”what do you mean?” because I know her as this young girl so I don’t know how old she is.

‘So someone told me and I was, like ”Oh! well maybe we can make the movie. Let’s go!”’

The film follows the bickering mother and daughter after a Chinese restaurant fortune cookie mishap causes them to switch bodies, forcing them to live the other’s life.

Despite barely having been able to see eye-to-eye, the magical switch eventually allows them to see things from the other’s point of view.

The sequel sees the iconic pairing switch places once again, though this time there is quadruple chaos in store.

Anna (Lindsay) is preparing to tie the knot with to Eric Davies (Manny Jacinto), but things are proving difficult as her teenage daughter Harper (Julia Butters) despises Eric’s teenager Lily (Sophia Hammons).

Harper highlights her disgust as she’s heard reciting mock wedding vows, in which she brands her soon-to-be step-sister ‘a little demon thing with an obnoxious accent.’

A flash forward to Anna’s bachelorette party sees her and mother Tess Coleman sit down with a fortune teller (Vanessa Bayer), who warns them they may learn another lesson by ‘walking in each other’s paths’.

Anna and Tess then find themselves caught up in yet another ‘freaky’ body swap incident – only this time, it’s not just between the two of them.

The next morning, Anna discovers she’s swapped bodies with daughter Harper, while Tess, aka ‘Grandma’, is now in the body of Anna’s step-daughter Lily.

Quadruple chaos then ensues as the foursome try to navigate their new roles with just days to go until the wedding.
