Frankie Bridge Faces Mum-Shaming Trolls Over Parenting Confession

Frankie Bridge has been savagely mum-shamed by online trolls after she revealed she had let her 11-year-old go into town with his friends.

The former Saturdays singer, 36, took to TikTok on Tuesday to share a candid parenting confession with fans.

Frankie revealed that she had taken her son Parker, 11, into to town to hang out with his friends alone for the first time, as she expressed her parental anxieties.

Sharing her worries, Frankie admitted that the milestone moment felt like a time when how well you’ve parented your child is truly tested.

But Frankie was put on blast as many people took to the comments of the video to criticise her decision, claiming Parker was ‘absolutely too young’ to go into town unsupervised.

Speaking in the clip, Frankie said: ‘I have just dropped my first born off to his first time hanging out with his friends on his own in town.

‘I’m trying to be the cool mum about it and be like “Yeah sure you can go in town and hang out with your friends…” But I’m not even sure if you really know how to cross the road properly yet on your own, you forget to put your seat belt on every time, I have to remind you even though I say it every single day.

‘I don’t think I’ve ever left him anywhere on his own… and today’s the day. He’s been talking about it for like two weeks, him and a group of friends and some “other friends from the all-girls school” have gone as well. Just… how?’

Frankie went on to say that she couldn’t believe she had a son old enough to be nearly starting secondary school, as well as old enough to go out on his own.

‘Secondly how are you supposed to be okay with them having a life and moving on?’ she continued. ‘He’s just popped into town up the road like it’s not even a big deal.

‘Basically the main advice I gave him is don’t be a d***, don’t be rude to people, don’t get in a fight, be polite, don’t make fun of people, don’t make people feel intimidated – like he’s capable of that. I’m like “If you don’t want to do something don’t do it”. Just so many things. So many things.

‘I guess this is where your parenting really becomes tested. This is when you find out how good your parenting has been. Like, have you told them the right thing? Are they the kind of kid who’s going to listen to those things and remember those things in the moments where they need them? Wild.’

Frankie shares her sons Parker and Carter, nine, with her former footballer husband Wayne – who also has a son called Jayden, 18, with his ex Vanessa Perroncel.

People quickly took to the comments of the video to claim Parker was too you, writing: ‘He is 11, absolutely too young to be in town xx my daughter is 11 and there are way to many weirdos out there x,’;

‘No way 11 is way to young not in this day and age,’; ‘My sons 14 I won’t even let him go into town yet,’;

‘The thing is I’m 39 so when I was 11 I would go out by myself with my friends but I wouldn’t allow my daughter to in this day and age because I feel like it’s too advanced in a way 1997 wasn’t,’;

‘Never at 11, my son goes out but he is 14! ive got app on his phone so I can see where he is,’; ’11 is way too young I’m sorry but the world is just not safe now.’

But other fans of the star were quick to back up Frankie, as they said that giving your child freedom and independence is a key part of raising well-adjusted kids.

They said: ‘If you can’t trust your kids will be ok in town at 11 they you have done something wrong they should be mature enough and competent to move in the world from a to b safely this helps development and social growth,’;

‘Well done. They have to learn. I assume he has a phone. The baby stage was hard and letting them find their own feet is terrifying. He will remember all that you have taught him. He will know right from wrong. Wait till they are going to nightclubs!!! Xxxxx,’;

‘The comments are crazy, kids need to learn responsibilities & be given a little independence. The world is a scary place but we can’t keep them wrapped up at home.’

Last month Frankie looked radiant as she jetted off to the Maldives on a family holiday to celebrate her husband Wayne’s 45th birthday.

She took to Instagram to share an array of snaps from her luxurious trip to beach resort Siyam World Maldives.

The family were joined by Wayne’s friend, football coach husband Luke Hampton, who was also celebrating his birthday, and Frankie’s pal Leah Meredith – who is CBO of her brand Faves.

Frankie looked incredible in a family photo with Wayne and their sons, as she donned a sheer red and blue floral chiffon maxi dress.

The trip had been to celebrate Wayne and Luke’s birthdays, with Frankie sharing a cake which read: ‘Happy Birthday Daddies.’
