It’s a low budget chiller made by a pair of unknown Aussie filmmakers and starring a cast of newcomers.
But Birdeater is shaping up to be the biggest breakthrough thriller since the Australian-made horror hit Talk to Me stormed the box office two years ago.
Produced by maverick Sydney company Breathless Films the movie is a savage story of a buck’s night gone wrong.
Set in a bush getaway the film features Utopia actress Shabana Azeez as a bride-to-be called Irene who ends up at her fiancé’s bachelor party.
Unfortunately for Irene and her groom Louis (played by Mackenzie Fearnley) a weekend of fun turns ‘feral’ where the lovebirds become victims to a series of vicious ‘games’.
Meanwhile, certain home truths about the couples’ relationship come to the surface with Louis’ mate Dylan (played by Ben Hunter) a ringleader in the scary mayhem.
A new trailer promises fans plenty of disturbing scenes.
One scene featured in the teaser shows the characters chasing an inflatable sex doll through a spooky forest.

Other scenes feature binge drinking and a character being dragged through bushland.
‘The film pivots on a potential psychological abuse allegation that arises during the middle of a buck’s party,’ explains Jim Weir, who wrote and directed the film with Jack Clark.
He continued: ‘The plot is about how each of the male friends respond to such a claim,’ reported industry magazine Filmink.
This is the first film from Clark and Weir since graduating from the Australian Film, TV and Radio School.
