Faux pas by the ‘Ralph Lauren set’ has the snobs sniggering, why everyone’s gossiping about the Judds – and the socialite shopping around lingerie pics of her teenage daughter: LUCY MANLY AT THE OPEN

Welcome to The Group Chat with Lucy Manly, where Australia’s most-trusted society insider shares the hottest gossip BEFORE it makes the news. Last week she was at Melbourne Park for the Australian Open launch…

It’s Pip’s world – we’re just living in it

It wasn’t the match between Novak Djokovic and Nishesh Basavareddy that set tongues wagging at the Australian Open on Monday night.

Instead, it was the motley crew of famous faces sitting in ‘the frow’ – all guests of Ralph Lauren – who ended up turning heads.

As the match started, the group made an almighty tennis faux pas by walking in after the first serve had bounced, clip-clopping down the stairs to their well-positioned seats like it was their very own runway.

For those unfamiliar, tennis etiquette prioritises minimal disruption to the players and other spectators, so it’s generally considered poor form to enter after play has begun.

Most tournaments have ushers who enforce a policy of allowing entry only during breaks in play, such as between games or during changeovers.

But such unspoken rules did not apply to tracksuit queen Pip Edwardsmodel Rebecca Harding and actress Krew Boylan, of Schapelle Corby TV-movie fame, who were permitted to enter regardless.

One surprise addition to the Ralph Lauren set was Aussie expat legal eagle Jennifer Robinson, who the London press likes to call ‘the A-list’s go-to lawyer’.

She has fronted high profile cases including the likes of Amber Heard and Julian Assange, and was even a guest at George and Amal Clooney’s 2014 wedding.

No wonder Pip was more interested in chewing her ear off that watching the match. Watch out, Jackie O. Pip might have a new bestie.

What’s behind the Judds’ disappearing act?

You’d think by their attendance at the Australian Open each year that Melbourne power couple Chris and Bec Judd were die-hard tennis fans.

Whether it’s sitting in on-court seats or sipping champagne at the luxury Piper-Heidsieck champagne bar, the Judds are always a Melbourne Park staple.

And tennis is a lucrative sport to follow for the power couple, with the prime seats provided courtesy of the bubbly brand – no doubt in return for some social media juice from the WAG ‘Queen bee’, who obliged by wearing a touch of red for Piper.

Bec certainly promoted herself on Sunday night as being courtside – and she was, for the entire women’s game -only for the couple to sneak out early on in the second men’s game during the night session.

Two days later, Bec shared a ‘get ready with me’ video to social media thanking her brand partners for the memorable experience.

‘Thanks for getting my hair ready Mermade Hair and thank you to Piper-Heidsieck for the insane experience,’ she gushed.

‘The Aus Open is definitely a highlight of the year.’

Perhaps their Irish goodbye was to avoid another embarrassing encounter with someone like former Mongols bikie boss-turned-influencer Toby Mitchell, whom they found themselves sitting next to last year.

Mitchell shared a photo to his more than 340,000 Instagram followers and while Chris obliged and looked at the camera, Bec chose not to and looked down at her phone.

Hard to be taken seriously when complaining about crime in Brighton if you’re pictured next to characters like Mitchell, isn’t it, Bec?

And finally… guess who, don’t sue

Which well-known socialite had one too many champagnes between tennis sets last week as she took on the role of proud stage mum?

The Group Chat hears the Melbourne maven was showing off photos of her (of legal age) teenage daughter in lingerie to fellow diners at a fancy bistro.

According to one bystander, she asked if any of the men would like to ask her out, all the while taking long, sensuous drags from her berry-flavoured vape.
