Wicked star Cynthia Erivo may have let slip a major spoiler about the future of the blockbuster musical.
The actress, 37, plays Elphaba in the film, which is loosely based on the 1995 novel of the same name by Gregory Maguire before it was transformed into a hit Broadway musical in 2003.
The film was split into two parts to capture the full scope of the story, with Wicked Part 2 due out in November 2025.
While walking the red carpet for the film’s LA premiere on Saturday, Cynthia was pressed about a potential third film – which is when the potential spoiler slipped out.
‘I feel like [the third movie] would be what’s Glinda’s life like after that moment, and what’s Elphaba and Fiyero’s after [part 2],’ she said.

Fans on social media have gone wild over Cynthia’s spoiler, with one writing, ‘She realized her mistake just in time!’
Realizing that she may have said too much, Cynthia quickly added, ‘But we don’t know if there’s Elphaba and Fiyero’s life after part two, so we’ll see.’
In the Wicked book, both Elphaba and Fiyero are killed at the end, but in the musical, Elphaba survives and Fiyero becomes a scarecrow.
Cynthia’s revelation about a third film indicate that the film may be following the plot of the musical more than the plot of the book.

Recording of the adaptation of the Broadway musical Wicked took about a year, with principal photography starting in December 2022 in England.
However, the film director John M. Chu had to place it on hold in July 2023 due to the SAG-AFTRA strike and picked back up after the winter holidays of that same year and eventually concluded in January 2024.
Wicked is the origin story of ‘a green-skinned woman who becomes the Wicked Witch of the West’, and serves as a prequel to The Wizard Of Oz, exploring the narrative before Dorothy’s arrival and delving into the former friendship between the characters Elphaba and Glinda.
Wicked: Part One hits theaters in the U.S. on November 22, and then the sequel, Wicked Part Two, will follow the next year, premiering in cinemas on November 21, 2025
