Former Lib Dem MP Lembit Opik has been slammed after he raged about the ‘vulgarity’ of Olly Alexander’s Eurovision performance.
The I’m a Celebrity alum took to X, formerly Twitter, on Saturday in an explosive rant about the UK entry’s performance including a ‘simulated sex act’.
‘Eurovision UK entry simulated a sex act,’ he wrote. ‘Graham Norton praised this performance! I had to remove my daughter from watching. Regarding sexualisation of Eurovision, what action will BBC – or Ofcom – take against such vulgarity, given the reality of young viewers on a family show?’
However people on social media were quick to call out Lembit’s ‘hypocrisy’, questioning why he had never shown outrage at suggestive songs by scantily clad female performers.
They also referenced him dating one the famously provocative Cheeky Girls, whom the former politician cheated on his fiancé with.
Lembit, 59, was also quizzed as to why he was allowing his young daughter to watch the performance at all, as it was past the watershed.

Olly, 33, represented the UK with his raunchy track Dizzy, and while things appeared to be looking positive after the jury vote he sadly received no votes from the public.
Squirming and writhing among his backing dancers Olly gave it his all in red leather trousers and a ripped white vest as the crowd went wild.
He had hoped to break the UK’s Eurovision curse and take home the trophy following Sam Ryder’s success in 2022 – however finished with just 46 points after receiving zero in the public vote.
But now-broadcaster Lembit shared his horror at the racy performance in several posts to X, threatening to complain to Ofcom.
‘Unless the BBC causes a live apology from Norton for praising a broadcast of the representation of an overtly sexual act in Eurovision I will refer this to Ofcom,’ he wrote in a second post.
He followed this up with several more fuming posts, which read: ‘Graham Norton continues to promote votes for UK Eurovision performance loaded with explicit sexual inferences. He has few minutes to apologise for this UK broadcast and his supportive comments. How can he and BBC NOT understand the offence this causes parents of young children?’;
‘”Fingers crossed for Olly” says Graham Norton. So, no apology for the inferred and pretty explicit sex act in the performance? Ok, complaint pending @BBC,’;
‘Eurovision used to be family fun. Only a totally irresponsible parent would allow a young child to watch this now – bearing in mind this broadcast began way beyond the watershed: and Graham Norton praised an overly sexualised performance.’

Lembit was seen pictured with Romanian pop duo The Cheeky Girls – known for their racy outfits and suggestive hits, including with instructions to ‘touch my um’ – back in the 2000s on a night out.
Then in 2006, his ex-fiancé Sian weathergirl Sian Lloyd explosively revealed he had cheated on her with one half of the group – Gabriela Irimia.
People were quick to slam Lembit for his ‘faux outrage’ regarding Olly’s performance on Saturday – and highlight his ‘hypocrisy’.
They wrote: ‘Would you be complaining about the “sexualisation of children” if this was a scantily clad young woman (maybe two….maybe sisters) gyrating around talking about touching bums? Especially after the watershed? Your tacit homophobia is showing mate,’;
‘Didn’t you cheat on your fiancé, with one of the cheeky girls? Bit hypocritical to go for moral outrage,’;
‘You literally dated a cheeky girl who sang a song about touching their bum & had skin tight mini skirts on . Just admit you’re homophobic,’;

‘Wait until she gets access to YouTube and sees what you did with the Cheeky Girls?’;
‘See no complaints about the amount of female singers in just body stockings or Finlands (very funny) entry.’
Others also pointed out that the UK performance was after the TV watershed of 9pm, and questioned why Lembit had been allowing his child to watch the show at all if he was so outraged.
They said: ‘According to Wikipedia, your daughters are 4 and 7. Why would you be letting them watch Eurovision, or in fact anything, after the watershed?’;
‘Our entry was on after 9pm, which is the watershed for tv, it is up to the parents then, also if you had watched the semi finals you would have seen the staging,’;
‘Cmon Lembit, the show didn’t start until 20:00 so I think we can all immediately understand there might be some adult themes. This whole tweet smacks of faux outrage. Do better.’
