Fan fears for Zac Efron as costar reveals his bizarre call for help before vanishing months ago

Zac Efron sparked fan concern after fellow actor Adam DeVine shared a bizarre story about him recently.

On Thursday’s podcast episode of In Depth With Graham Bensinger, DeVine said his former co-star once asked him for a place to crash but ended up ghosting him.

DeVine, 41, explained he received the concerning phone call from Efron, 37, about six months ago before adding that he has not heard from him since.

Efron and DeVine previously played on-screen brothers in Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, a 2016 romantic comedy which also starred Aubrey Plaza and Anna Kendrick. 

On the podcast, DeVine recalled receiving a call from Efron ‘out of the blue’ after a ‘couple [of] years’ of not hearing from him.

It is unknown if DeVine’s recollection of the call occurred around the same time as Efron’s mysterious hospitalization after a swimming pool incident in Ibiza, which occurred just days after he was partying and kissing his friend in Mykonos.

About seven months ago, back in August 2024, Efron was hospitalized in Ibiza after he dove deep into a pool and his chest made contact with the bottom of the pool, leading to him ingesting water in his lungs and having to be pulled out of the water.

The Iron Claw actor was last pictured late last year on the set of his upcoming thriller Famous, having recovered from the harrowing incident.

‘He’s on some private island somewhere, and he’s like, “Hey man, I just want to let you know that I miss you”,’ the Pitch Perfect star recalled.

‘And I’m like, “I miss you too, dude. You’re a good friend of mine, yada, yada.”‘ 

He continued: ‘He’s like, “You still have that place down by the beach?” And I’m like, “I do.” 

‘And he’s like, “Would it be cool if I came and crashed with you for two weeks?” And I’m like, “Uh, yeah, yeah, yeah, come stay with me.”

‘And he’s like, “All right, I’m going to call you tomorrow to get all the details, and then I’ll be there early next week, OK? And then you’ll send me the address and all that”,’ Devine added.

He said that after the call with Efron, he told his wife Chloe Bridges that they were expecting company.

‘I’m like, “Chloe, I think Zac’s going to come live here for a couple weeks. I don’t know.” And she’s like, “OK, yeah, I guess so.”‘ 

DeVine said that his pal and former co-star ended up ghosting him and they have not talked since then. 

‘And then, he ghosted me, dude. Never called back. I even texted him like, “Are you gonna stay here?” And I haven’t talked with him since, so I have no idea, dude, no idea.’
