Matthew McConaughey was targeted by a stalker who showed up at one of his recent meet-and-greet events for his new book – before being escorted away from the event by police.
The Oscar-winning actor, 53, has been harassed for a long time by the female stalker via bizarre emails, letters and lawsuits – with the situation ‘coming to a head’ when she revealed she was planning on attending his event for book, Just Because, reports TMZ.
In a bid to protect himself and his fans, the star went to court to get a restraining order against the woman beforehand – with the stalker greeted by police when she arrived at the event , informed of the restraining order and escorted away ‘without incident.’
Sources told the publication McConaughey ‘understood the risks’ the woman could pose at the event, and wanted to make sure his fans, especially children – were safe.
This comes after the star got emotional while talking about his family at a Live Talk event in Los Angeles on Saturday.

The actor revealed that he and his wife, Camila Alves, have not spent more than nine days apart in the entirety of their marriage since they tied the knot in 2012.
While talking to Katherine Schwarzenegger Pratt about his debut children’s picture book Just Because, he also delved into his successful career and family life.
The Interstellar star — who was blown away when he inspected his ‘beautiful’ Madame Tussauds waxwork in New York City for the first time — also said he hoped their three children would describe him as their ‘best friend’ when they grow older.
McConaughey and the Brazilian model, 41, are parents to Levi, 15, Vida, 13, and Livingston, 10.
During the one-hour interview, he sported casual attire and gushed about the family he shares with his wife.
The beginning of the couple’s love story began when they met in a West Hollywood nightclub in 2006.
The Oscar winner told People in 2018 before revealing that before he met her, he wasn’t sure he would ever find ‘unconditional love’.
‘I mean, the clock was ticking,’ he recalled. ‘I was about to be 40 and my plan was to be married and have kids by that age.’

‘But I didn’t want to play the game of starting to feel anxious because, with too much anxiety, you can’t find a mate,’ he continued. ‘And then you make a hasty decision.’
‘I knew men who had made hasty decisions and women who had done the same thing. But at that point, I wasn’t hunting,’ he added.
‘And then this amazing woman walked across my field of vision and I thought, “Who is that?” And it was Camila.’
‘We have a love that we never question,’ he said.
Three days after the pair met, they had their first official date.
In 2008, they welcomed their first son Levi. Two years later, they welcomed their daughter Vida.
In 2011, McConaughey proposed. The pair tied the knot after a six-month engagement and six years together at their home in Austin, Texas in June 2012.
Later that year, they welcomed their third baby together.
