‘This year’s cast is very keen to address issues immediately,’ relationship expert John Aiken shared.
‘They don’t stew on anything. They come out of the blocks hard. It’s very abrasive at times, confronting, and essentially it burns white-hot, those dinner parties.
Then, once they’ve got everything off their chest and they’ve had something to eat, they are ready to go.’
‘Sometimes they didn’t even wait for the dinner to be served,’ Alex Spurway added.
‘They’d sit down and it would begin, and we’d be like, “Shh, we’ve got to get the dinner in, get in the food.” They kick it off the minute they sat down.’
Groom Threatens to Walk Out Mid-Wedding
In one of the season’s most shocking moments, groom Eliot Donovan made it clear that if his bride didn’t meet his high standards he wouldn’t hesitate to leave on the day of the wedding.
Eliot, 35, who is described as ‘particular’ and ‘highly selective’, reportedly struggled to connect with his bride and threatened to call it quits when things didn’t go his way.
‘We knew that he had a lot of boxes to tick. We knew that he had preferences that he was very strict on,’ Spurway revealed.
‘But coming into MAFS and doing a lot of the interviews with the experts, he always remained open. Often, though, when you are confronted with your match and when you do finally meet someone for the first time – a stranger – that’s when those true colours come out.’

‘They’re not here for fame – they’re genuinely looking for love,’ Walsh explained. ‘But when they’re disappointed, they don’t stick around. Some of them just leave.’
Aiken believes this mirrors modern dating culture, where people often prefer to move on rather than work through issues.
‘Many singles today are transactional. If something doesn’t tick a box, they run instead of digging in and trying to make it work,’ he said.
Producers Embrace Backlash
The team behind MAFS is bracing for the inevitable polarising reactions from fans, something they’ve come to expect as part of the show’s success.
‘Backlash is part of the DNA of MAFS,’ Walsh said.
‘Fans don’t want a watered-down version of reality. We’re prepared to wear criticism because we know it keeps people talking.’
Walsh reflected on how past controversies, such as petitions against certain participants, have only fuelled the show’s cultural relevance.
‘We’ve had petitions to have Bryce separated from Melissa,’ he added.
‘People get very invested in it, and we’re happy for that. But we don’t want to curate the show to the extent that it’s all smooth edges. Fans don’t want a diluted, happy families version of MAFS – they want raw, real drama.’

Even after nine years with the franchise, John Walsh admitted the season managed to surprise him.
‘The thing with this season – it surprised me in so many ways,’ he said.
‘Everyone always says, “Oh, that’s been done before,” but this season really is full of surprises. I think that’s the great thing that we’re going to find. It’s still surprising. Even that first episode – it’s still surprising that the couple had already met before, the bride’s made the sister.’
Walsh summed up the essence of the season: ‘You should never expect what it’s going to be. So that’s the great thing about MAFS. It just keeps delivering. And I’m very happy that, for me, for the final one, it’s great. Yep. It’s going up on a high.’
