In 2018 the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) revoked the Daytime Emmy Award it gave Darbo the month prior, for her guest-starring role on the Amazon soap opera The Bay.

She earned the gong for her role as Mickey Walker in the guest performer in a digital daytime drama series category at the 45th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards.

In the wake of the submission scandal, NATAS rescinded her Emmy and chose not to award it to another performer.

Darbo later released a statement regarding the scandal, sharing: 'The ultimate responsibility lies squarely on the shoulders of NATAS. They should have vetted each and every submission and then notified those submitting of any submission errors in advance of the voting and the ceremony.'

She went on to star as Shirley Spectra on The Bold and the Beautiful from February 2017 to March 2018. Her impressive resume also includes guest appearances on Seinfeld and Roseanne; Pictured with Stephen Lee in a still from Roseanne

'The inequity in this year’s Daytime Emmys based on ageism, gender inequality, and perceived favoritism is, in my opinion, a big blow to the Emmy brand,' she said.

'The TV Academy, who administers the primtime Emmy Awards, is very clear that Emmys are awarded to those who achieve excellence in television. I’m beginning to wonder what NATAS feels the Emmys stand for.'
