Emma Willis praises husband for being a ‘phenomenal’ father

Emma Willis dissolved into tears on Monday, as she gushed about wonderful a father her husband Matt was on The Newlyweds Podcast.

The presenter, 48, tied the knot with the Busted singer, 41, in 2008 and they share three children, Isabelle, 15, Ace, 12, and and eight-year-old Trixie.

They appeared together on the latest episode of married couple Jamie Laing and Sophie Habboo’s podcast, where they revealed how their romance began and opened up on their nearly two decade relationship.

But at one point, Emma became visibly emotional and also reduced Jamie, Sophie and Matt to tears as she talked about having children.

After Jamie confessed his nerves about starting a family, the TV host said: ‘You remind me of Matt a little bit. I don’t really know you, but you seem a bit of an excitable puppy.’

She continued: ‘That’s what Matt’s like and the minute we had kids it’s like his best mate had arrived.

‘He is my partner and my equal and sometimes he’s like my fourth kid. And I mean that in the best possible way, because he’s like that when he’s with his kids.’

Emma began to get choked up and teary, as she added: ‘So he just gets down on their level and he’s f***ing phenomenal with them.’

She reached over to Matt, who looked close to tears himself, and added: ‘Honestly, it’ll make you the best version of yourself.’

Jamie and Sophie also became visibly moved, as Jamie welled up and said: ‘Why am I getting emotional? Why are you making emotional?’, while Sophie added: ‘I know I’ve got goosebumps!’

To lighten the mood, Emma then quipped: ‘Or you’ll combust!’ as Matt added: ‘It’s massive f***ing adjustment.’

Emma continued: ‘And it’s tough, but the best possible tough. The one thing you want tough for.’

Matt then went on: I see my kids as the best versions of both of us. I see some of the bad parts sometimes, but I see a lot of the great parts of both of us in them. So it’s wicked.’

Emma and Matt have been working together recently as they are the co-hosts of the UK spin-off of hit Netflix dating show, Love Is Blind.

Matt recently gushed over his wife of 16 years and praised her work ethic as he declared: ‘She’s the f*****g best at what she does’.

Speaking to Principle Magazine about how it felt to join forces with Emma professionally again, the drummer said it had made him realise how much he loved spending time with her still.

He explained: ‘Working with Emma is so great, because it’s easy, you know? I was really nervous about it because I’m not a TV presenter.  She’s just like, “Just be yourself.” I’m like, “How the f*** do I do that?”

‘But I’ve got a safe pair of hands next to me, who is the f*****g best at what she does. So, I’m going to just tag along with her.’

He continued: ‘I’ve been with her pretty much half my life. When work and kids and stuff get in the way, you kind of forget sometimes that “Oh, I really f*****g still love you.”

‘I mean, we love each other, but you forget like, “Oh, I really like you, I want to hang out with you more than I want to hang out with anyone else,” which is so f*****g nice.

‘I’ve dated a few times before her, the odd girlfriend here and there, but Emma was my first real relationship, so I don’t really know how the dating world works. Everything I hear about that world is f*****g tough.’

Matt was just 22 when he began dating Emma, then 29, in 2005 and the two married three years later.

The couple have been very open about Matt’s past struggle with sobriety and released BBC documentary Matt Willis: Fighting Addiction last year.

Matt later admitted Emma was reluctant to take part in the documentary, saying: ‘I kind of had to talk her into it, really.’

He added: ‘It’s a part [of addiction] that doesn’t get talked about – the effect it has on people around you’, as Emma explained that revisiting Matt’s battle had been hard, but also ‘incredibly cathartic’.

She said: ‘It was tough to relive that period in our lives but it was also incredibly cathartic to talk through those dark days.

‘We’re all imperfect and we shouldn’t feel like we have to hide certain parts of ourselves to be loved. Ultimately it was our love and hard graft that have got us to where we are now.’

Speaking to The Mirror in November, Matt said that after the documentary ‘lots of people reached out about people they loved’.

He said: That was the thing I got the most, messages from loved ones saying “Thank you for putting that bit in”. It was such an integral part to involve Emma in it.’

Matt rose to fame as one-third of pop-punk band Busted in 2000 alongside James Bourne and Charlie Simpson.

They split in 2005, before collaborating with fellow English band McFly to form super group McBusted, and then reformed as Busted again in 2015, celebrating their 20th anniversary with a tour last year.
