Emma Thompson Ditches Hollywood for Rustic Retreat with Daughter Gaia

Dame Emma Thompson swapped the glamour of Hollywood for a rustic retreat as she gave a rare glimpse into her holiday with her daughter Gaia Wise on Wednesday.

The actress, 66, who shares her daughter, 25, with her husband Greg Wise, looked summery in a white shirt dress as she visited some goats.

She teamed her look with a pair of circular sunglasses and added white sandals to top off her outfit.

Gaia soaked in the scenery with Emma on a bench before enjoying a mountain top swing.

She looked stylish in an oversized T-shirt, which she teamed with denim shorts and a patterned head scarf.

Sharing the photos to Instagram, she captioned the update: ‘Final bits from Summer in the mountains with goats, rabbits and the worlds most pointless gate.’

Their trip comes after the mother daughter duo attended The Dead Of Winter photocall at Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland.

Nanny McPhee legend Emma rocked a chic co-ord featuring a white and grey shirt and matching trousers.

Meanwhile, Gaia put on a head-turning display flaunting her endless legs in cream sequinned shorts and nude stilettos.

The Last Chance Harvey star wore a white bralette and a see-through shirt.

Harry Potter alum Emma looked every inch of the doting mum next to Gaia while gracing the red carpet, as the pair both star in Brian Kirk’s The Dead Of Winter.

Gaia plays the younger version of Emma’s role, portraying the character’s journey from a person who experienced a rich and happy life, through trauma, to becoming someone capable and willing to sacrifice, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The film explores the darker side of human nature and revenge narratives, but also highlights the heroine’s resilience and strength.

Gaia’s father Greg is Dame Emma’s second husband, former Strictly star and Walking On Sunshine actor.

Emma has been happily married to her second husband Greg for 20 years.

Gaia made her acting debut in the BBC series Silent Witness – where she played plays university student Jo Reynolds whose mother, the controversial health secretary, is assassinated – sparking the interest of forensic pathologists.

In 2021, Gaia detailed her three-year battle with anorexia – and credited her parents for saving her life by staging an emergency intervention.

She developed anorexia aged 16 which left her so thin she was unable to even sit on a chair without it being painful. She was later admitted to rehab in 2017.

She spoke out about her illness for the first time with The Sun on Sunday, saying: ‘Anorexia makes you really good at gaslighting people, making it sound like they’re insane. My parents would say, ‘Gaia, we heard you working out at 3am.’ And I’d say, ‘No you didn’t, it was just the house moving. I was asleep.”
