Convinced he’s trying to save the planet, he sets out to kidnap a businessman (Baek Yoon-sik) who he’s convinced is actually an alien.
The film follows the kidnapper, businessman, the kidnapper’s girlfriend (Hwang Jeong-min) and a detective (Lee Jae-yong) as they engage in a battle of wits.
The original film became a cult hit, winning numerous prizes at festivals and earning Jang the Golden Bell Award for best new director in Korea.
Original director Jang was previously attached to take the helm on the English-language remake, from a script by Will Tracy (The Menu).
The report adds that Stone would likely play a ‘supporting role,’ though no specifics were given at this time.
Lanthimos will also team up with producers Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe at Element Pictures for the sixth time.
Element will produce alongside Ari Aster (Midsommar) through his Square Peg production company and the original Korean distributor CJ ENM (previously CJ Entertainment).
Aside from Kinds of Kindness, Stone will also next be seen in the highly-anticipated Cruella 2, which is currently in pre-production.
