Elton John attends the Oscars 2025 ceremony while his own viewing party gets underway just blocks away

Elton John clearly wanted a front-row seat to the action this year, ditching his usual hosting duties to soak in the 2025 Oscars ceremony firsthand.

The legendary singer-songwriter, 77, was spotted schmoozing with Hollywood’s elite at the Dolby Theatre on Sunday night—while just down the road, guests were arriving at his Elton John AIDS Foundation’s 33rd Annual Academy Awards Viewing Party in West Hollywood.

As Elton and his husband, David Furnish, sat in their tuxedoed finest watching Anora and Dune: Part Two dominate the night, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Jean Smart, Neil Patrick Harris, and David Burtka were gearing up to co-host his glittering gala.

Despite skipping out on his own party (at least for now), the music icon appeared to be having the time of his life, fully immersed in Oscar magic.

But with the night still young, there’s always a chance he’ll make a grand entrance at his own bash—especially with Chappell Roan set to hit the stage.

In the meantime, Elton got his live music fix at the ceremony, enjoying performances by Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, and RAYE.

Because if anyone can make the most of Oscars night, it’s Sir Elton.

Elton’s annual Oscars viewing party has been a star-studded tradition since 1993, when he first hosted the event to benefit the Elton John AIDS Foundation.

Over the years, the gala has become one of the most high-profile Academy Awards parties, attracting A-list celebrities and raising millions for HIV/AIDS research and support.

Typically held in West Hollywood, the event features lavish dining, live entertainment, and, of course, a big screen to watch the Oscars unfold.

In 2020, the party celebrated its 28th anniversary with a special virtual edition due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

By 2023, the fundraiser had amassed over $100 million in donations, solidifying its reputation as both a glamorous soirée and a philanthropic powerhouse.

Guests have included everyone from Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus to the Beckhams and the Kardashians, with Elton often performing alongside surprise musical guests.

Now in its 33rd year in 2025, the event remains a staple of Oscars night, proving that Hollywood’s elite can party with a purpose.

Meanwhile, Conan O’Brien, 61, is making his debut as Oscars host, after joking: ‘I only agreed to host so that I could get invited.’

This year’s ceremony has an unusually unsettled field in many of the most high-profile categories, including best picture and most of the acting categories.
