Ellidy Pullin has opened up about the complicated mix of joy and guilt that she still carries, five years after the death of her partner, Winter Olympian Alex ‘Chumpy’ Pullin.
The 32-year-old – who lost Chumpy in a tragic drowning accident in 2020Â – says she is ‘in some ways… happier than ever’, but admits that every moment of happiness is shadowed by lingering grief.
‘[My daughter] Minnie is at such a fun age at the moment. But it is strange; every time I feel such happiness with my personal life, I simultaneously feel guilty for being so happy,’ Ellidy told The Daily Telegraph.
‘Then it makes me really miss Chumpy and I feel bad for being so happy. But that is just a grief thing.’
She added that she had recently heard a description that perfectly summed up life after profound loss.Â
‘Someone said when you have lost someone so profound in your life, you will forever have an imaginary friend called grief,’ she said.Â

‘You just have to make friends with it because it’s going to be with you forever. I will have this grief forever.’Â
The comments come just weeks after Ellidy soft-launched her new relationship with Gold Coast contractor Brock Wadsworth, sharing their romance online after quietly dating on and off for a year.
‘It felt really natural because he is a friend and we have been together on and off for a year… it felt right,’ she said.
But she admitted going public opened the door to criticism from strangers.Â
‘I just wanted Minnie and my friends and family to be the main ones who had anything to do with him… not randoms,’ Ellidy revealed.
‘When Chumpy died, people said it was time to move on, and now I have got this boyfriend, I get messages saying it’s too soon. You can’t win.’
Earlier this month, Ellidy’s new boyfriend Brock Wadsworth made their romance Instagram official just weeks after she confirmed their relationship.Â
The Gold Coast contractor shared a loved-up image to his Instagram Stories showing the couple locking lips in a passionate embrace.

In the photo, Ellidy showed off her stunning figure in a low-rise grey skirt and white halter top, slicking her hair back in a claw clip.
The lovebirds appeared smitten in the photo, which was taken in Bali.Â
The couple were partying it up on the Indonesian island for DJ Paul Fisher’s 40th birthday, whose wife, Chloe, is best pals and podcast co-hosts with Ellidy.Â
Ellidy confirmed the relationship on their Darling, Shine! podcast in October.
Her new relationship comes five years after the tragic death of her partner Alex ‘Chumpy’ Pullin.
Chumpy drowned on the Gold Coast at the age of 32 in a freak spearfishing accident on July 8, 2020.
Ellidy gave birth to her now-three-year-old daughter Minnie in 2021, who was conceived through a posthumous sperm retrieval process following her father’s shock death.
The couple had been dating for eight years before the accident, and while they never married, Ellidy changed her last name to Pullin in his honour.
