Elizabeth Olsen Reveals ‘Secrets of Shame’

WandaVision alum Elizabeth Olsen revealed her ‘secret shame’ which always makes her ‘feel like I am judged immediately.’

The 36-year-old Emmy nominee is ‘not into animals’ and does not consider herself ‘a pet person’ – which meant taking part in BuzzFeed‘s celebrity favorite, The Puppy Interview, in 2023 made her ‘miserable.’

‘It was hard for me. I was like, these dogs are peeing everywhere and they smell,’ Olsen lamented to Bustle last week. ‘I didn’t enjoy it.’

The Marvel Zombies actress added: ‘I feel like I am judged immediately if I don’t want to hold or touch someone’s pet. But also similarly, I don’t necessarily want to hold other people’s babies either.’

Olsen explained it’s not like she doesn’t find other people’s babies cute or sweet, but she feels like there’s a burden to the ‘responsibility’ of her physically engaging.

‘And it’s only until I feel like a connection to the thing, whatever it is – animal or human – where I want to physically engage with them,’ the Independent Spirit Award winner noted.

Olsen is also ‘not a big crier’ in movies aside from the ending scenes of Victor Fleming’s 1939 historical epic Gone with the Wind and Sydney Pollack’s 1973 romantic drama The Way We Were.

‘They both kind of end similarly. “I’ll see you later maybe, honey,”‘ the Sherman Oaks native – who’s an atheist – said.

‘They both kind of have that kind of ending where Barbara’s the one who’s doing it in one and Clark Gable in the other. But yeah, those movies get me every time. But maybe that’s also connected to nostalgia. Again, nostalgia is a very powerful feeling.’

Last Friday, Olsen revealed that her childhood growing up with famous twin sisters – Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen – was ‘pretty chaotic.’

‘I was the youngest of four, and we were all born within five years,’ the nepo sister explained to The Times.

‘So now I think the idea of a calm bath and bedtime story routine is so tender and sweet because we didn’t have anything like that.’

Olsen began acting when she was four years old, appearing in her older siblings’ projects, including the 1994 television film How the West Was Fun and the straight-to-video series The Adventures of Mary-Kate & Ashley.

The Assessment star has not welcomed any children during her six-year marriage to former Milo Greene musician Robbie Arnett, whom she met in 2017.
