Elizabeth Hurley’s career could have taken a very different turn if not for one surprising rejection.
The actress and model, 59, was almost cast as Cassandra in the hit TV show Only Fools and Horses, but was reportedly turned down for being ‘too glamorous.’
In a Channel 5 documentary Only Fools and Horses: Secrets and Scandals, it was revealed that Elizabeth had auditioned for the role of Cassandra Parry, Rodney Trotter’s love interest.
But producers thought she was just too good-looking for the Trotter family’s dynamic and instead, the role went to Gwyneth Strong, who debuted as Cassandra in 1989 and continued until 2003.
Talking to The Mirror the documentary’s author, Mike Jones, explained why Liz had not landed the part on the British sitcom, saying: ‘She auditioned for the role and it was felt that perhaps she was probably a little too glamorous for…how can I say it diplomatically? Our lanky Trotter brother.’
