Elizabeth Hurley’s career could have taken a very different turn if not for one surprising rejection.

The actress and model, 59, was almost cast as Cassandra in the hit TV show Only Fools and Horses, but was reportedly turned down for being ‘too glamorous.’

In a Channel 5 documentary Only Fools and Horses: Secrets and Scandals, it was revealed that Elizabeth had auditioned for the role of Cassandra Parry, Rodney Trotter’s love interest.

But producers thought she was just too good-looking for the Trotter family’s dynamic and instead, the role went to Gwyneth Strong, who debuted as Cassandra in 1989 and continued until 2003.

Talking to The Mirror the documentary’s author, Mike Jones, explained why Liz had not landed the part on the British sitcom, saying: ‘She auditioned for the role and it was felt that perhaps she was probably a little too glamorous for…how can I say it diplomatically? Our lanky Trotter brother.’

Despite missing out on the prime time spot, Elizabeth’s career has flourished.

She starred in Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery, and led the E! drama The Royals from 2015 to 2018.

The revelation came as Elizabeth shared a throwback with fellow actress Patsy Kensit, celebrating their 35-year friendship.

The post, featured photos from their 1989 film, Kill Cruise alongside a recent snap at an Estee Lauder event and showed how their bond has stood the test of time.

In the film picture, both women put on very leggy displays with Elizabeth in a skimpy white dress and Patsy in a peach coloured number that finished at the top of her thigh.

The firm friends beamed for the camera in the picture captioned 2024 with Elizabeth in a baby pink top with floral detail and Patsy in all back.

Both women wore glamorous palettes of makeup and left their long locks fall freely over their shoulders.

Sharing the picture to Instagram, Liz captioned: ’35 years of friendship with @patsykensit. First pic is the day we met, and second pic is a few days ago.’
