Echards Shocking Paternity Lawsuit Revelations

Former Bachelor Clayton Echard is calling for the woman who accused him of getting her pregnant with twins to be jailed after he was forced to spend a six-figure sum to clear his name.

In 2023, Echard, now 32, was falsely accused of getting Arizona-based Laura Owens pregnant with twins after a one-night stand.

The ensuing lengthy legal ordeal saw Echard’s mental health spiral, with the star struggling to get out of bed and feeling like his life was ‘ruined.’

Now, with an ending in sight, Echard has told the Daily Mail of his frustrations at how much time Owens has wasted and how she has bled him of huge sums of money.

‘It's mainly anger,’ he said of his feelings towards her. ‘And it's just because she's wasted my time and money. She's wasted my resources for no reason. It's like, you didn't have any shred of truth to your story, so the fact that somebody can just make something up, there's no truth to it whatsoever, and take you into court and bleed you out of six figures and make you have to spend countless hours going to court and talking to lawyers? You've just wasted my time with nothing.’

Echard is no stranger to real life drama having been dubbed one of the most hated Bachelor leads in the show’s history when he appeared on the ABC hit in January 2022. He got dumped by his first choice, Susie Evans. The two later reunited and split a short time later.

One of his runner-ups, Rachel Recchia, was left heartbroken when Echard dumped her, but the two were reunited on Netflix’s third season of Perfect Match where he dumped her again, this time after 24 hours.

But none of this could prepare him for the drama that was to come after hooking up with Owens in May 2023. Echard previously claimed his relationship with Owens started with a LinkedIn job inquiry, which led to her sending a provocative photo and eventually meeting in person and spending the night together.

Although Echard said the two only had oral sex, Owens, whose father is former San Francisco radio legend Ronn Owens, showed Echard sonograms among other forms of alleged proof to back up her claims that he had impregnated her.

In August 2023, Owens filed court documents in Arizona claiming she was pregnant with twins.

That November, a judge granted Echard an Injunction Against Harassment after it was found Owens had sent him over 500 emails and texts.

The following month, a paternity test submitted in court showed Owens was not pregnant, though in June 2024, Owens claimed during the trial that she suffered a miscarriage.

Speaking about the ordeal, Echard said: ‘I would lay in bed most days until like, nine o'clock, which for me is late cause I'm usually up at five. There'd be days where I could not get out of bed. I would just lay and look at the ceiling because I was just thinking about how screwed my life was… like “I am going to be forever attached to this crazy woman”… she's now forever going to be adjacent to my life, so I'm like, my life's ruined. I have this insane individual that is making sure that I cannot avoid her and she wants to basically be partnered for life and I don't want this. So yeah, I would stare at the ceiling most days.’

But justice prevailed as the court found Owens had a history of fabricating pregnancies with other men, and in May 2025, she was indicted on seven felony charges for her false claims against Echard. Seven more charges were added in November 2025, bringing the total to 14.
