Dua Lipa and Shania Twain have broken their silence after being revealed as the headliners for Glastonbury Festival 2024.
On Thursday, the pop singer, 28, admitted headlining the Pyramid Stage at the event is her ‘wildest dream’ while the country music star, 58, said she is ‘honoured’ to play the coveted Legends slot.
It marks the first time in the event’s history that female acts have taken two of the three headline slots.
Dua and Shania will be joined by Coldplay and SZA with festival co-organiser Emily Eavis announcing that the full line-up will be revealed over the coming months.
The festival will be take place at Worthy Farm, near Pilton in Somerset from Wednesday June 26 to Sunday June 30.

Sharing her excitement following the first announcement, Dua posted on Instagram: ‘FRIDAY NIGHT PYRAMID STAGE HEADLINE!!!! I have dreamt of this moment all my life.’
She continued: ‘Something that lived only in my wildest dreams and highest manifestations!!! I am so excited to see you all in my favourite place on earth and make it a night to remember!! Thank you ~ GLASTO 4EVER.’
Posting a message to X, Shania wrote: ‘The legends slot at GLASTONBURY 2024 – Another jewel in my crown!! I feel so honoured and so excited about this one!
‘Thinking about what to wear already and tell me, what should we sing together?! Let’s make history with this ultimate dream performance!!’
Speaking to Gaby Roslin on Radio 2 Breakfast Show afterwards, she added: ‘Oh my gosh, ok I’m way up there at the top. I really am so excited. I mean the best part of it is being able to share it now.
‘It’s so exciting, it’s been hard to keep it to myself to be honest. I’m really glad that it’s announced and I’m just buzzing.
‘I feel like it’s well, I don’t know if this is the right language, but it feels like an accolade of sorts, really something that you have to earn, it’s just very rewarding, it’s a really beautiful feeling.’
Adding of Lionel Richie, who performed the Legends slot in 2015, the singer continued: ‘He’s one of my absolute heroes and he’s a mentor, really someone that did mentor me through a difficult vocal time so it’s beyond an honour to be also doing this slot.’

She continued: ‘That’s when you really sense the marker, when you’ve got somebody like that who has done the slot and, of course, Dolly Parton. So many of my heroes have done it.’
Shania said her perfromance would be a ‘sunset glow party energy with all the hits.’
‘Honestly this is, would never have even entered my mind that I would ever even make it across the border from Canada to go anywhere so, it was always my dream honestly to go around the world, but yeah I can’t believe it, I’m actually going to Glastonbury!’
Other acts on this year’s line-up include Brit Award-winning rapper Little Simz and Afrobeats star Burna Boy, making his Pyramid Stage debut.
Big names like LCD Soundsytem, PJ Harvey, Cyndi Lauper, Michael Kiwanuka, Janelle Monae, Paul Heaton, Keane, Paloma Faith, Olivia Dean and Ayra Starr will also be hitting the stage.
Thirteen-member boyband Seventeen are set to become the first K-pop band to perform on the Pyramid stage.
Glastonbury bosses have previously been accused of choosing too many male acts to headline. Last year the line-up was all male, with Arctic Monkeys, Guns N’ Roses and Sir Elton John taking the top slots.
Previously addressing the lack of women headliners, festival organiser Emily Eavis said: ‘I’ve always been really passionate about gender split [on festival line-ups] and I think, actually, our problem was that I’d been so outspoken about it that having a year when there wasn’t a female sent people a bit mad – or some people.
‘And we did have a female – she pulled out and we replaced them with Guns N’ Roses. But everyone knows that it’s top of my list.
‘It is difficult with female artists because there aren’t enough headliners. But we’re also creating them. We’re putting the bands and female artists on smaller stages and bringing them through all the time. And who knows? Next year we might get two. And certainly, I can say that the Legend is female.’
Last year, revellers enjoyed the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Guns N’ Roses and Elton John, who played his last ever UK gig on the Pyramid stag to close the 2023 edition of the festival.
Rick Astley, Lil Nas X, Blondie, Lizzo and Aitch were joined by hundreds more performers across the weekend, proving to be an enviable line-up and giving many of those who didn’t attend FOMO.
The 2024 line-up announcement comes after sources previously revealed that talks with Madonna collapsed after organisers refused to pay the fee to bring her live show to the festival.
Speaking to Gaby Roslin on Radio 2 Breakfast Show afterwards, she added: ‘It feels like an accolade of sorts, really something that you have to earn, it’s just very rewarding’
Coldplay have headlined four times before – in 2002, 2005, 2011 and 2016
A Glastonbury source told The Mail on Sunday at the time: ‘To be honest it’s been a real blow not being able to nail down a deal with Madonna.
‘Emily was so keen to have her play the legend slot. After she saw Madonna’s tour in London in October she raved about her on Instagram, something she rarely does without Glastonbury in mind.
‘But everyone knows that after last year, and the criticism over the gender balance, we’ve got to have big name females heading the line-up. Dua Lipa is a real catch. Now we need another.
‘There is still some hope it an be resurrected but it’s pretty unlikely. There are money issues at the root of this, it’s a real shame.’
Bosses then tried to get Fleetwood Mac icon Stevie Nicks on board, but she then signed to the BST festival in London’s Hyde Park.
Glastonbury 2024 will take place from Wednesday 26 June to Sunday 30 June.
