Drew Barrymore Reveals Daughter’s E-Bike Crash in France

Drew Barrymore opened up about a frightening family emergency after one of her daughters was seriously injured in an electric bike accident while vacationing in France.

The actress, who shares daughters Olive, 12, and Frankie, 11, with ex-husband Will Kopelman, recounted the ordeal during her Thursday appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

‘The last time we were supposed to get together, my daughter ended up having an accident,’ Barrymore, 50, told the host, noting that she had canceled plans with Colbert’s wife at the time.

Although she reassured Colbert that her daughter was ‘fine,’ the E.T. alum went on to describe just how intense the incident became.

‘My daughter, actually, she got in an e-bike accident. In France, which sounds so fabulous,’ she said with a touch of humor. ‘Yes, so we were in fabulous France and then she had an e-bike accident.’

Barrymore explained that her child was biking deep in the mountains when she ‘ripped her whole elbow open,’ leading to multiple hospital visits.

‘We spent days in an E.R., in and out,’ the talk show host revealed.

In a moment that left her in awe, Barrymore described how her daughter took matters into her own hands.

‘She ripped off her bra and turned it into a tourniquet,’ she shared, praising her quick-thinking skills.

Colbert expressed his amazement, suggesting the resourcefulness must have come from her upbringing, but Barrymore dismissed the idea.

‘No! That’s just who she is. And I just marvel at her,’ the Charlie’s Angels star said proudly.

The actress has long spoken about the importance of motherhood in her life.

In a previous appearance on Colbert’s show in January, she described her girls as her ‘North Star.’

‘They’re really, really good. Every day is different. Every hour is different. They’re my North Star, my compass,’ she said at the time.

Barrymore also reflected on how motherhood has transformed her.

‘I love that in the life that I got to live before I knew them, my priorities were different. And ever since I came into the world, I understand what the purpose of my life is. It’s wild,’ she gushed.

She continued, ‘I just know that I’m all in and I care so much and I am imperfect, but I’m going to do everything I can to do this to the best of my ability, and it’s fun. It’s humorous and it’s delicious and it’s great. And they’re my everything.’

In 2024, Barrymore opened up about her eldest child’s obsession with wanting to be older on her talk show.

‘My daughter, who’s about to turn 12 really wants to be 16… going on 25,’ she said.
