Dr Alex George has lost seven stone after taking up exercise to improve his mental health after struggling following the death of his brother.
The former Love Island star, 33, told how he turned to food for comfort after his brother Llyr died after tragically taking his own life at the age of 19.
Alex admitted he was in a ‘difficult spot’ with eating and drinking and got to point where he no longer recognised himself.
Speaking on ITV’s Lorraine, he said: ‘Sometimes we go through difficult times, I’ve been through quite a journey. Of course, my brother passing, hard times do come, and dealing with these things is tough.
‘I was dealing with grief from eating and drinking, I wasn’t addicted, but you quickly find yourself in a difficult spot. I really though I lost myself, I didn’t recognise myself.

‘Walking has changed my life, it was the starting point. I’ve now lost six or seven stone in weight. 2 years ago, I couldn’t walk more than 10 to 15 minutes.’
The TV star – who works as the UK Youth Mental Health Ambassador – described grief as an ‘energy’ that needs to be dealt practically otherwise it can lead to some ‘very dark’ places.
Alex – who practices as an A&E doctor away from television – reminded Lorraine he had to to cancel an appearance on her namesake show the day his brother died.
He said: ‘Grief is an energy, you need to do something with that, if you allow it, it can destroy you, it sounds very dark.
‘I was going down that path, and I had to realise that. People put everything else first and their health last. You knew me when I was in A&E at the start of pandemic.
‘I was meant to be coming on Lorraine the day when my brother died and I had to cancel, so you’ve seen me through it all.’
Alex recently opened up about his weight loss on Instagram, where he admitted that he has ‘never felt so good’ in mind and body since shifting the pounds.
He wrote on Instagram: ‘Nearly two years consistently in the gym now. And I’ve never felt so good with weight training in my life.

‘Lifting weights builds as much strength in the mind as it does the body.
‘The confidence it brings knowing that you are fit and capable is unreal. I love it.
‘Whatever you are working towards, keep pushing, that hard earned dopamine is more than worth it. You got this.’
