Downton Abbey costumes and memorabilia are being sold off in a charity auction with superfans set to secure memorabilia from the period drama.

Dozens of historical costumes, props and even an vintage car used in the beloved ITV series are to be auctioned off to raise money for a children’s charity.

Fans will be able to purchase a dress worn by the late Dame Maggie Smith, who starred in the programme’s six series and two of its films as Violet Crawley, Dowager Countess of Grantham.

Other lots include the wedding dress Michelle Dockery wore as Lady Mary Crawley when she married Matthew Crawley (Dan Stevens), the distinctive bell wall from the servants’ hall, and the Grantham family car, a 1925 Sunbeam Saloon.

The car, which auction house Bonhams say is one of about 45 of the vehicles which survive, has an estimated sale price of £25,000 to £35,000.

A script from series one, episode one, signed by cast members including Dame Maggie, Hugh Bonneville and Samantha Bond, is listed for an estimated £600 to £800.

The set pieces, props and costumes will be on display at a free exhibition at Bonhams sale room in New Bond Street, central London, frin Monday until September 16.

Proceeds from the auction will go to Together for Short Lives, a charity supporting children with life-limiting conditions and their families.

‘The world of Downton Abbey is beloved around the globe for its rich, timeless storytelling,’ Gareth Neame, the show’s executive producer said.

‘These iconic set items hold a special place in that history, and we are proud to see them help support the vital work of Together for Short Lives.’

The third Downton Abbey is set for release next month and fans were left ‘in tears’ when a new trailer dropped, confirming a major Lady Mary scandal.

The drama, which originally ran for six series on ITV, will return for one final time this September.

Ahead of its release, the full-length trailer was revealed, shedding more light on what fans can expect from the grand finale.

However, her plans to become her father’s successor are thrown into jeopardy when news of her divorce reaches the newspapers.

Maggie passed away aged 89 last September and the sweet nod to her through the painting made one fan emotional.

Reacting to the trailer, one fan simply said: ‘I’m crying already.’

A second commented: ‘I’m currently on season two in my Summer long rewatch leading up to The Grand Finale. I may have arrived late to the show but Downton Abbsy has meant truly everything to me. Thank you to Julian Fellows and the entire cast and crew for this wonderful franchise!’

‘It is the most captivating franchise I’ve ever seen,’ said a third fan.

While a fourth commented: ‘I know I’m going to be bawling my eyes out. every good story has a beginning middle and end. long live Downton Abbey.’

Meanwhile, Paul Giamatti said the filming of the third Downton Abbey movie has not been the same without the presence of one of the show’s most beloved characters.

The actor, 57, made the revelation in a new interview where he discussed his brief role in the upcoming movie, where he will once again step into the shoes of Harold Levinson.

If the character’s name does not ring a bell, that is because he last appeared back in 2013 during the Christmas special.

Reflecting on the filming process, he said it has not been the same without Dame Maggie Smith, although he said she still ‘felt present’ in the process.

The actor revealed that the brief experience working with the legendary actress has been one of the highlights of his career so far.

He told PEOPLE: ‘It was not the same without her, but it felt very much like in her honor in some way.

‘She certainly still feels present through the whole thing.’
