This new series, which will be released on HBO on Friday, sees the actress play Madame De Rosemonde, a prominent figure in the French elite.

It is a prequel to Dangerous Liaisons and follows the rise to power of the young Isabelle de Merteuil, played by Anamaria Vartolomei.
The synopsis reads: ‘To be the hero of your own story, you sometimes have to be the villain in others.
‘Marquise de Merteuil embarks on a daring journey to become Paris’ leading courtesan.’
Diane, who is German, is fluent in French. The last time she stared in a French film was Farewell, My Queen back in 2012.
The actress said she found it quite a challenge filming The Seduction because the language was historic to reflect the era in which it was set.
She told Tech Radar: ‘It was a hard muscle to flex because it’s old French.
‘I don’t know if you pick up on that if you don’t speak the language, but it was not easy.
‘I mean, I barely speak French, but this type of French is impossible, and my biggest preparation was just to be able to say it.

‘There was a lot of putting a pen in your mouth, and you have to talk like that and try to get your muscles relaxed enough to say things.
‘And because it’s a TV show, there’s a lot of rewrites constantly… so you couldn’t learn it beforehand. I was struggling, but I love it.’
Diane acting credits include war film Troy and National Treasure, which were both released in 2004.
